Book Description

14 Nov 2008 In Easy Steps

HTML in easy steps instructs you how to create exciting web pages using the latest HTML 4.01 specification. It contains separate chapters on all features of the HyperText Markup Language (HTML). This popular title is updated for Web 2.0 and includes examples and screenshots that illustrate each aspect of HTML.

HTML in easy steps begins with a brief history of HTML then explains the basic structure of a modern HTML document. The book describes how to incorporate information about a document within its 'head' section before moving on to demonstrate how to add its 'body' content. Examples show how Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) can control the appearance of the document content. You will learn how to create web pages to display text, images, lists, tables, hyperlinks, forms, and multimedia with Windows Media Player, Java Applets, Flash movies, Real Player and QuickTime. You need have no previous knowledge of any markup language so it's ideal if you're a newcomer to web pages. Each chapter builds your knowledge of HTML. By the end of this book you will have gained a sound understanding of HTML and be able to create your own interactive web pages.

HTML in easy steps has an easy-to-follow style that will appeal to anyone who wants to begin writing web pages. It will appeal to programmers who want to quickly learn the latest HTML techniques, and to the student who is studying website design at school or college, and to those seeking a career in web development that need a thorough understanding of HTML.

5.0 out of 5 stars HTML is sooo easy with easy steps 28 Nov 2003
By michael
Format:Paperback
As part of a new job, I was tasked with taking over the development of my companies(a small Charity) web site. They had previously had some 'professional' help, but the guy was unreliable at keeping dates, and often just uncontactable. How hard could it be I thought to myself. Well, I had a popular web design package and cracked on. But just couldn't get it to do what I wanted and where I wanted. I tried looking at what the previous guy had done, but it made no sense. I had previously got the Easy Steps guides to 'Web Page design' & 'Creating Web Pages' but excellent though they were, they didn't go into enough detail on the code etc. I visited my library and borrowed a HTML book, which was unfortunately by another publisher, and it was rubbish. It glossed over the basics and didn't explain anything, just thrusting code at me. I decided to get the Easy Steps book on HTML, and what a revelation. After only a few hours I was able to make alterations to the web site, and a week later I had effectively re-written the whole thing, spending less and less time on the web design page and more and more on the HTML page.
I cannot recommend this book more, to someone who is either starting out or relatively new to web design, I have now proceeded on to the Easy Steps books for Javascript and Java, and will stick with this range which, after having tried several other similar ranges, I have decided is by far the best out there.
In summary, this book (and other in the Easy Steps range) are well written, logical and informative, faultless!
It does exactly what it says on the cover...........

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick read but I wasn't that impressed 16 Nov 2009

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you want a quick overview this book is OK in my opinion. A good proportion of the book is taken up with exercises, and each one includes the same initial steps which use up a lot of page space. However it is well laid out, clear and includes some useful tips.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended 5 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I do know HTML and have written a few dozen websites in the past 10 years. I bought this to brush up on newer tags as I haven't written any websites for a couple of years, I don't think this is particularly well written for beginners and even as an intermediate user it is very difficult to read.

I am also shocked that any HMTL book would teach readers 'frames' and not indicate what a poor choice for web site design these are, I don't know any web designer worth their salt that would even consider using frames even a couple of years ago for web site layout.

I would give this book 2 - 3 out of 5, personally stay clear, there are so many better books out there such as HTML by Elizabeth Castro (I used this 10 years ago to learn web design although there are much newer updated editions).

1.0 out of 5 stars IN EASY STEPS??????????? 20 May 2006
Format:Paperback
This book is a nightmare for anyone trying to learn html from scratch,. This is the purpose I bought it for, and it is absolutely hopeless. There is no easy steps, and nothing is explained properly. It instantly starts using complicated terms which mean nothing to me - this is fine, but they don't go on to explain them. I don't understand where the steps are, there are none. Waste of money!
