I didn't think I would like a smart phone, and was quite worried about the touch screen aspect but I couldn't live without one now.

Good points:
- Lots of preloaded features such as navigator which is a great portable sat nav for walking around cities.
- Android OS which has lots of Apps available for download, both free and paid.
- Intuitive layout.
- Stylish
- Big screen for phone size.
- Can use Kindle for Android app.

Bad points:
- Not ergonomic, the case is slippy and it is hard to use one handed.
- Back cover is hard to remove without a bit of force.
- Low resolution screen, which means some games will not work.
- Poor battery life (2 days without Wi-Fi on).
- As with any touch screen, can't use gloves.

A great phone! 18 Feb 2011

As a first time user of a smartphone, I'd wondered how big a learning curve there might be, but the set-up process was very quick and the majority of other functions were easy to figure out. A start-up guide is provided with the phone, but the full manual is available online if you want to find out about all the features without playing around with the handset.

The phone came with Android 2.1, but an update was available for version 2.2 and the software seems to work really well. With seven homescreens that you can scroll between, there's plenty of room for shortcuts to the various applications that come with the phone and any others that you download. I'd heard that the Android Market was the poor relation of the iPhone Market, but to me there seems to be an incredible range to choose from. The web browser is great and the pinch screen method of zooming in or out is so handy. I imagine that the speeds are slower than you would get with a phone like the HTC Desire with its greater processing power, but pages load pretty quickly nonetheless. And the touchscreen isn't overly responsive, but I've never found myself having problems with getting anything to respond.

Two criticisms I'd read about that had concerned me before buying the phone were the quality of the camera and the screen resolution. However, for taking photos when out and about when I don't have my proper camera, the end results have been good. With a 5mp camera, there's great scope for cropping photos and still having a good quality image. As for the screen resolution, again I'm sure that it's not a patch on that of the Desire, but I've watched youtube videos and looked at my photos and found the clarity to be good. I was very pleasantly surprised in fact.

I don't use twitter or flickr, so have no idea if they're easy to use with this phone, but using facebook (for my own updates, browsing and commenting on friends' posts, and uploading photos) and picasa is so simple and easy. And having a google account and using gmail with all my contacts entered there, once I logged in to google, all contact details were synced to the phone. One of the shortcuts you can have is to your "people" list, and I find it easy to scroll through to whomever I want to find. Facebook contacts are also put there, and though the phone will attempt to link entries, it is possible that you'll still have some duplicates, but linking them manually can be done in a moment.

Overall, I've experienced no downsides to this phone and given its relatively modest price for an Android phone, I highly recommend it.
