Touch Me,
By Dr Stephen Marcus Ogley "Marcus74" (Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HTC Touch Pro2 Sim-Free Windows Mobile Phone (Electronics)
This is just a brief overview, nothing too technical!
Now HTC is a company that i've previously avoided up until now. The reason why was simple - i didn't know how good or how well made their devices were/are. I've worked in mobile phone and satellite receiver manufacturing environment for many years now and always look at how well things are put together when i buy them. I'm pleased to announce that the HTC Touch Pro 2 is a very well made device. It's nice and weighty at approx 176g? or something around there. The built in slide-out QWERTY keyboard is a contributor to it's bulk, which i like - heavy phones to me mean good materials in its construction. The screen can tilt slightly at an angle for better viewing when using the keyboard. Keys are well spaced and responsive which makes fast emailing or texting. Of course you can use the included stylus for input or just the old finger will do. Without getting too technical, this runs Windows Mobile 6.1 professional but its been skinned so well that you hardly notice its famed unfriendliness. Everything runs easily enough for me, but i'm not using this to its full potential. The camera is 3.2 megaP with auto focus and takes fantastic looking photos when viewed on the huge screen. When viewing them on the screen you can use a handy zoom bar to zoom into the image, of course, using your finger (or stylus). There is no radio. It has GPS, Opera Browser, PowerPoint Mobile, Google Maps to name just a few random programs. You can literally flick text messages off the incredible high-res screen with your fingertip when you've read them, drag images around to your liking, and when you receive a call you slide a virtual switch to 'answer' or 'reject'. The build quality like i said earlier is excellent. The only minor problem i have with the phone is having to remove the back cover to change Micro SD cards. Still, it doesn't really matter enough to affect the five star rating. Provided accessories include a leather case, spare stylus and screen protector. So summing this up i'd say that this is a premium pocket PC phone although worthy of the asking price, and if you must touch something new, try touching this.

Best Phone I Have Used For Years,
By Kyle Pascoe "Gadget Reviewer Kyle" (London UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HTC Touch Pro2 Sim-Free Windows Mobile Phone (Electronics)
Well where do i start after purchasing a Touch Pro 2 and an Acer M900 i was expecting to be let down a bit by both after being a blackberry man having the curve and storm recently i love how easy they are to use.
Unboxing this phone i was surprised at how shiny and solid this phone really is the slide out QWERTY is the best i have ever seen with the keys being generously spaced. Once switched on you get a beautifully crisp and clear image on the screen. Once it had finished setting itself up it was instantly ready to perform and boy did it. I thought i would start with testing out the keyboard it is awesome i was able to, with the spacing of the keys get some very quick typing speeds similar to that on a normal PC keyboard. Touchflow 3D is awesome however i installed SPB Mobile Shell which is even better. Overall i really love this device and would recommend it to anyone looking for a windows mobile device in my eyes i could see this phone becoming a netbook killer as you can do everything on here as you can on a netbook with the bundled office apps and internet explorer it makes for a truly mobile office experience. A true iphone beater. Well done HTC you have excelled with this one. Check back soon for my full review.

HTC Touch Pro 2 - Quick Review,
By
This review is from: HTC Touch Pro2 Sim-Free Windows Mobile Phone (Electronics)
I've had my touch pro 2 for under a week but I'm really loving it so far.
In spite of all the criticism that gets levied at WinMo devices I'm so far very impressed, TouchFlo 3D is a considerable improvement over the standard interface and a definite worthwhile addition by HTC. I decided to try SPB Mobile Shell out anyway and I have to say it's made me fall totally in love with this phone, extending it from a "power user" device I was happy with into a truly flashy phone that's fun to use and fun to show off if you have geeky friends. Note that changing this part of the interface does not affect the HTC dialling screen which still allows you to swap between normal and conference call modes which is a great relief. Every review I've seen emphasises how amazing the keyboard is so on that subject I'll just point out that they're right, it's no desktop replacement but it's as good as you're likely to get without swapping your phone for SIM enable laptop. I tested the GPS functionality and from a cold start I was waiting about a minute before I gave up waiting for a location on Google maps when I remembered there was a GPS speedup utility bundled to take advantage of the assisted GPS support. Turned GPS off and ran this which got the satellite locations from the net over 3G in a matter of seconds, when returning to Google maps and turning GPS on after the speedup utility had been run it got a signal and pinpointed my location in the office carpark almost immediately. Phone calls are clear and sharp and the mute ring and speakerphone on turning the phone face down work as advertised and will undoubtedly be handy to avoid searching for the on screen options (in case you haven't spotted it in any other reviews turning the phone face down when it's ringing will mute the ring rather than activating the speaker, I'm sure anyone on this page already knows that when the line's active this action will enable the speakerphone). The camera seems fine for my purposes, I've not used it a lot and I'm no photographer so capturing a memory is more important to me than the fine detail of exactly how perfect the white balance and colour sharpness is. The images I've taken seem high enough quality to keep me happy and the lack of a dedicated camera button doesn't bother me. Most of the pictures I've taken I've touched the screen somewhere to get it to refocus on that spot so had a finger near the screen to take the shot anyway. The WorldCard Mobile application bundled with the phone works a treat, and so far has only gotten 2 individual characters wrong in addresses, a quick and simple fix with the hardware keyboard and cursor keys. Internet browsing with Opera mobile is fast and works well, the only minor annoyance is that you normally have to zoom in in order click on links, but the dedicated zoom slider area makes this pretty simple if a little fiddly if the page is still loading as the Opera rendering engine will put you back in the top left of the page after a zoom if the page has loaded more content while you were zooming in. A few pages I've been too haven't liked Opera too much and the bundled IE browser has worked well on those, though it's slower to use this is mostly because it waits for more of the page to load before showing it to you so you can't start browsing or reading until most of the page is loaded. You do still bump into some windows phone areas that aren't exactly beautiful, select a contact category being one of the most annoying if you need to select the top item as there's only a few pixels difference between ticking the checkbox and opening the start menu. I did experience a few times where the interface became unresponsive until it caught up when using TouchFlo 3D, mostly when first changing back to the TouchFlo interface from another program. I assume TouchFlo is more resource hungry than SPB Mobile Shell as I haven't experienced that once since changing over. One thing to take note of is that there are an awful lot of settings you can change to tweak things to the way you like them. If you're coming from a normal phone and don't have any previous Pocket PC or Windows Mobile experience it will be worth looking online for how to do something if you can't find it quickly on the phone as alot of settings are very well buried. This is hands down the best phone I have ever owned or used.
