This phone is lovely to look at and to hold, it fits nicely into my hand, but I am disappointed with the limited things I can do with it. I had a Nokia N73 for about 6 years, and wanted a phone that would allow me reasonable Internet access plus texts and calls. I had to move to O2 to use this phone and they are a disappointment too, but that's another review!
So far, the phone is quick to respond, but that may be because I've not loaded anything on it as I'm unsure whether to keep it. It's a very basic phone (as the price reflects) but there is no option to download any apps that would make the phone more useful. Everything that comes with the phone out of the box is exactly what you get. I even downloaded the user guide from the HTC Smart website to the (provided) SD card, but couldn't open it as "the file was not supported".
Surfing the internet is challenging to say the least! When I can actually get online, while scrolling up and down the screen with my finger/nail, I also, inadvertantly, zoom in and out which makes the whole experiencce a nightmare...because scroling up and down also brings up the zoom in/out bar and it's difficult to avoid hitting it by mistake.
The camera does not zoom in so all photos are taken from the real time distance.
With the N73 I used the Notes feature a lot for shopping and also to keep lists. There is no Notes on the HTC Smart and no option to add this feature. So that's a huge minus for me.
Also, with the Alarm feature, I can set alarms for anytime and select weekdays or weekends. But I cannot really set alarms to remind myself to do things. There is no option to insert a note with the alarm to let me know what the alarm is about! I can just set alarm, it rings, and I have to remember somehow what I set the alarm for!
Texts are listed according to date received/sent and that can be quite confusing in itself. It can be difficult to know if you've received the text or sent it. Being used to the N73, I have a hard time getting used to the white text on black background that features heavily on this phone. Themes may sort that out, but I haven't tried any so can't say.
Also, if I navigate by mistake to the phonebook, and that happens very easily, the call goes out automatically to the top-of-the-list number whether I wanted to call them or not. By the time I've realise I'm calling someone and hit the red button to end, most likely, the other person's phone will have rung. Embarrassing!
The sound is OK with the provided earphones. I've only listened to radio and it seems OK. The earphones themselves feel very basic and light, but then again, it's not an expensive phone.
All in all, I'm disappointed with this phone, and plan to return it and get another Nokia (possibly N97... or similiar). Even taking into account the price, this phone is too basic for me.
