5.0 out of 5 stars behind the ridiculous name is a cracking phone 22 July 2011
Cha Cha? Could they really not think of anything better to call it? Really?

Get the ridiculous name and there is a very impressive phone.

Firstly, the look - the first thing it reminded me of was one of those scientific calculators that I wasnt allowed to take into my GCSE's many years ago, it has got a certain retro chic about it though but it's not the most manly of phones.

It's main selling point is the keyboard, perfect for us of a certain age who cant handle this new fangled touch screen thing, it feels really substantial and makes texting/emailing a wonderfully simple experience - one minor quibble - the spacebar is a touch small.

Reading reviews online it seems that the main criticism is the screen size, sure it's not the biggest but it's perfectly adequate with great definition, I certainly wouldnt have wanted a bigger screen at the expense of the keyboard - I suppose it depends on what your priorities are as to which you would prefer. The touch screen is responsive and a pleasure to use.

So, onto internet use - it's fast and smooth and handles the majority of websites without a problem. Yes sometimes you have to zoom in/out of some pages but that simply isnt an issue to me and if youre after an all singing and dancing internet experience you shouldnt really be looking at a phone that is geared to text/email/social networking.

Talking of social networking, onto the facebook button - if youre a regular poster on fb then its fantastic - letting you post pretty much anything in 1 button press.

Battery life is better than average for an Android smart phone, easilly lasts the day with pretty heavy use. It charges quickly too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Piece Of Kit. 7 July 2011

The Cha Cha replaced a Sony Xperia Mini Pro which I was not at all happy with. I stuck with it for three months and then moved on the to HTC Cha Cha. My main reason for buying this mobile was I needed another mobile with a proper QWERTY keyboard. Compared to the Sony it's lightning quick, especially when using the Internet on 3G. Battery longevity is not too bad. A full day with average use.

HTC aftermarket service is very good, unlike Sony. You can actually phone them and speak to somebody very quickly.

Camera is pretty good, auto focus is a nice touch, and HTC provide lots of free goodies to load on the phone once you register with them. (There is an HTC app available that turns the camera LED flash into a torch).

Overall, this is a well thought out mobile, easy to use and has all the facilities I need. It is however quite a large phone and if you are looking for a dinky slim mobile this will not suit you. It's pretty big and fairly heavy. You could say it feels well built. It's about the same size as a Blackberry.

One thing that is not easy though is removal of the rear case to insert your sim card. It's pretty tight.

Well worth a five star rating though.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Phone. 3 Oct 2011
Until now BlackBerry was the undisputed champion when it came to keyboard. Now HTC ChaCha has arrived as a good competitor. It has a 800MHz processor. 5MP Camera. Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 2.1 for Messenger overlay.

Plus points:
Brilliant keyboard. If you want a physical keyboard with android OS there aren't many options. ChaCha serves a niche market in that sense.

HTC Sense. HTC have done a good job with their overlay and its brilliant again. The tocuh screen is responsive.

Design is brillaint with a chin which just allows you to hold the phone and point the screen and a good angle when using it.

Voice clarity is good.

Minus points:
Battery life, even though is has to deal with only 2.6 inch of screen the battery won't suffice for an entire day, if you are a heavy user like me. You will either need a charger handy or a spare battery. spare batteries are easily available.

Whilst typing pressing the ENTER key in few application inserts a line and in others sends the messages. (The most annoying thing, personally)

The Facebook button can only post on your wall. you can't change your status or anything. (Useless if you ask me.)

Internal memory is low with only 512MB. You will have to be choosey with the kind of applications you download.

I would give the phone 7.5/10.

I've just bought this phone as a replacement for the Motorola Defy, and what a difference! The keyboard is a real boon to use on the Chacha, and better to use than the blackberry 9300 that i tried. I've had no issue with the "W" key that i read was a problem on one review, but have found it annoying having to press function + B in order to strike an apostrophe ('). My wife is Peruvian and laughed at the phone when it arrived because ChaCha means "housemaid" in south america! Name aside, and useless facebook button aside, I really like this phone alot. It's just a complete package if you are more interested in communicating easily, and occassionally using internet/satnav. This is Perfect if you have found yourself swearing at trying to type on a touchscreen, it has an excellent operating system and battery life (if you don't have wifi/3G always on) is very good. The kink/chin in the shape of the phone is pretty negligible and i don't think is particularly a problem or a bonus either. Build quality is good, but not excellent. The fit of the panels does not fit as well as say a Nokia or iPhone, but is still good. I really hope HTC keep a blackberry rival in their lineup, and when they do replace the ChaCha, I would only ask that they drop the facebook button (it's a bit of a gimmick). Overall it's a really great phone and I for one will be in line for the HTC Housmaid 2 when it is released!
