The HTC desire Z I got came with an integrated "remote+earphones" system, where the earphones are shockingly bad. Having a nice set of in-ear Sennheiser, I thought this would be perfect.

It was not. I expected a little more control than the single 2 functionalities. You can pause/play music, and you can call your previous outgoing call. Full stop. No more.

How about skip to next song, come back a song, and come on! Volume Control? No. None of that. Well, that was money down the drain.

OK, so it's a bit expensive, but it seems to be the only option if you want to be able to use a wired headset with HTC phones. The earphones provided in the box, as you know (otherwise why would you be looking at these), are completely useless. So I am really not sure why this comes with another pair of completely useless earphones (other than to justify a higher price) - clearly it is only the mic and adapter part that people want. That said, the mic works pretty well, and the button works well too. I'd recommend installing a headset button controller from Android market - that gives you a bit more flexibility how you configure what the button does - I use jays headset controller, which is free and works well. I did try the Belkin mic with controller for iPhone - don't get that, it doesn't work -- I got it because I think the design is better, with a separate mic rather than having it in line with the earphones. Would be nice to see a wider choice of these, as I said this seems to be the suitable only option.

I wanted to use my own earphones, and in particular to be able to use decent quality in-ear phones. These worked a treat. I was most impressed by when I was in a really noisy aircon (data centre) environment where it's almost impossible to use a mobile phone normally due to the background noise being terrible. Using this adaptor I was able to hear clearly and (presumably that's the HTC desire doing smart noise filtering) was heard clearly.

I have a pair of Future Sonic's headphones which are the best with extended bass response . This allows me to use then to listen to music on the phone. OK MP3 is not the best format to listen to music if you are an audiofile, but being able to use better phones is a big advantage. Don't understand why a poor set of headphones are supplied with the device.
