I was not sure what to expect when I bought this phone. I had heard loads about the new ANDROID that was taking the mobile world by storm, the only major competitor to the iphones thus far (especially the HTC Hero). So i thought I'd try this out and I have to say this phone delivered bigtime:
1.The different "scenes" which enable customization of the 7 different home screens are great. They are kinda like themes but sooo much more.

2. Amazing Widgets and you could always download more via the Google Android Marketplace

3. 30000+ apps and counting. Definitely nothing as flashy as the iphone apps but they are various apps and you're sure to find something you like.

4. Amazing Aluminium finish and lets face it, its a BEAUTIFUL phone. I get complements sometimes when I use it in public places. Beauty is'nt ervrything but it sure counts if you ask me.

5.Brillaint browser and 5-star browsing experience.

Only major flaw thus far is the quality of the GAMES are no where near those of the iphone. But if thats not your thing then this is definitely the smartphone for you...did I forget to mention the 5 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA WITH FLASH!!

Nuff Said...

I disagree with the last review. It's ridiculous to give this handset 1 star and say it's outdated... especially if you haven't even used one. I have a HTC Legend here with me now, and pretty much the entire phone has been upgraded from the Hero.

The processor is actually faster than before, albeit only very slightly, but you'd be silly to expect a 1GHz Snapdragon processor in the Legend, because it's a much smaller handset than any Snapdragon phone. Therefore, I disagree that the phone is outdated at all. It's just not meant to have the fastest processor. Instead, focus has been put on design, keeping the handset smaller and having an attractive aluminium unibody, whilst keeping all the functionality of the Snapdragon handsets, albeit some things might be a little slower to load.

Also, it has a new AMOLED screen that no HTC Android phone has previously had, a new optical d-pad, and is the first HTC Android phone to have a flash for the camera. Oh, and it has the latest version of Android (2.1 Eclair).

So, how it's not an up-to-date phone, I'm really not sure. It has all the latest tech, it just doesn't have the fastest mobile processor currently available, which is due to size constraints. Regardless, the processor in the Legend (600MHz, just like the iPhone 3Gs) is perfectly adequate for purpose and helps the Legend function well. Web pages scroll smoothly and everything is a breeze to use. Plus, it's worth noting that the Legend will be cheaper to buy than any comparable Snapdragon handsets, and possibly use less battery as well.

Anyway, if you're after a really nice looking phone with a great OS, AMOLED screen, and a reasonable price tag, then you'll struggle to beat the Legend.

Quietly brilliant it says on the box and it is. Still working my way through the 207 page manual, which has to be downloaded as a PDF. Printed out on A5 it is twice as thick and 4 times the size of the phone. But that just shows how much this can do.
Google maps pre-installed makes a free Sat-Nav using the built in GPS. Download the free RAC traffic app as well. Connects wi-fi to my router (or any other free wi-fi points) to avoid data download charges. Download the free Barcode scanner from the Android Market, point the camera at a barcode and find reviews, price comparison etc from the web. Sync with your email account and send and receive emails. Turn it sideways and the screen turns to landscape for a larger on screen keyboard. 100s of apps add further functions. Oh, by the way, it also makes phone calls!
Only niggle so far, trying to access the Android market for the first time, it repeatedly asked to log in and then could not establish a data connection even though connected to my router. A hard reset (page 207), sorted that and away we go.
I've given it 4 stars because I'm sure it isn't perfect but it's pretty close.

Additional comment after 2 months usage. The battery life seems very short at first, at best 1, maybe 2 days light use with GPS, Wi-fi, Bluetooth turned off (there are lots of tricks to conserve battery life). Recently discovered a thread on AV Forums giving a re-charge procedure for the Desire, which has given me up to 4 days.

Update after 6 months. Still delighted. No problems. Bought the Viewranger app which gives 1:25,000 OS maps to use with GPS for walkers and cyclists. 10th December phone detected Android 2.2 update available. Connected to my home router it backed up my apps and contacts then downloaded and installed the update and re-booted. Result a smoother, faster phone and all my stuff intact.

I moved to this phone from a HTC Touch Diamond 2. It was problemmatic even after upgrading to Windows Mobile 6.5. I was jealous of my wife's iPhone but did not want to get into a contract while I was provided a phone from work. I also did not want to have to jailbreak a phone to put other simcards into it. I have found the Legend an excellent way to replace my iphone envy. I like this phone better than Apple's because the interface is more customizable, if I desire, and it has been very reliable, only once having a problem with 3rd party app that forced a soft reset. The shape is comfortable and I prefer it to the wider Desire. I sync media files using Media Player, just connecting it to the computer as a storage device. If you prefer having an inflexible, gridwork of apps and can not live without iTunes, then iPhone is for you. But if you prefer more flexibility in placing and using apps and don't mind less integrated media experience buy this phone.
