I bought the IPAQ HX2790 to avoid having to lug a laptop around when I am occasionally working away. I got a great price on it too so shop around. The IPAQ does its job well. It comes with wifi, Bluetooth and Microsoft Office Mobile. You can view and edit documents with MS Office Mobile Word and Excel (though the small screen makes all but the simplest edits very frustrating); and Powerpoint viewer (surprisingly good but no edit capability). There is also Explorer, Media Player, and Outlook. Setting up e-mail accounts in Outlook has proved tricky but webmail access is fine for me, and the wifi connection works fine -slower than my broadband connection but way faster than a GPRS connection. I have also downloaded Adobe reader and Skype for Pocket Pc (not tried yet). The HX2790 does not have GPRS but the Bluetooth will connect to a GPRS device. The IPAQ comes with expansion slots for SD or MMC card and Compact Flash. Connection through USB to your computer is via the docking cradle (or you can buy a special cable). The fingerprint reader, though, is a pointless gimmick. It misreads more often than it reads correctly and I have switched it off. Overall though for webmail, a little surfing, and viewing and minor edits of documents this Pocket PC is great. I wouldn't want to try to use it for major pieces of work - the screen is too small - but for a few days away at a time it fits the bill.
