Bought this laptop from Amazon about 3 weeks back. I was very close to buying a Macbook pro 13 and then changed my mind to buy DM4.This is nothing inferior to mac(also saved me £200). Very slim(2 kgs) and looks stunning. Excellent performance, good battery life(around 4-5 hrs per charge),nice web cam, etc, etc. Graphics isn't bad at all( I don't play games in laptop anyway!!). Great value for money with top of the range configuration(core i5, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD). I am very sure this will keep me going for the next 2-3 years. The only critisism I have is the annoying pre-installed HP software junks!. I managed to unistall quite a few of them and it is feels much better now!!!

If you're after a laptop that's stylish and powerful, then the HP Pavilion DM4 certainly looks the part, with it's patterned aluminium keyboard surround and lid, and it's no slouch under the hood either. I use mine for development, and its dual core i5 is perfectly capable of running the copy of x64 Windows 7 that it comes pre-installed with, as well as a development environment and a couple of virtual machines, and represents a bargain at this price. The battery life is pretty good too.

If you are looking for a machine to play the latest games, however, you may want to look elsewhere, as this has a screen resolution limited to 1366x768 and no dedicated GPU.

The keyboard has a small travel distance and has the Apple-style key spacing, but it's snappy enough that you know when a key has been pressed. Unfortunately, the F-keys default to their alternative functions such as volume and other media controls (to actually press F2, for example, you need to press Fn + F2). A neat idea for a multimedia system, I just wish I could turn it off for when I'm using the real F-keys. The trackpad is also quite sensitive and takes a little getting used to, particularly since there's no divide between the pad itself and the L/R-click buttons just beneath it.

The gorgeous surround and lid top isn't quite matched by the glossy plastic screen bevel or the matte plastic backing, and there's a few pieces that move more than they should, including part of the screen bevel and the mains port.

But despite the glitches, niggles and minor issues, you can't really argue with the raw performance at this kind of price.

Really love this laptop so far. Looks beautiful and the keyboard is great except that one side has a fault since the metal has risen on one side meaning the keys are very springy on affected side. Do not have time to get this fixed so I can live with it. Overall very please with purchase!

I bought this HP DM4 about 3 weeks ago and I am delighted with it. It keeps all promises: small and light, quick, easy to use, etc. I hesitated with a slightly cheaper version available at PC World with less memory and hard disk, but I am totally happy with this version, it was worth a few more pounds. The click pad requires a bit of practice but it works well once you have understood it. As it was mentioned in other comments, there are lots of HP software or shareware already installed on the laptop and it would be much better without - most of them are quite easy to uninstall anyway.

In brief, do not hesitate to buy this laptop!

I am very pleased with it. I love watching movies and it's perfect for that.
I am using graphic programmes and it does not affect the speed of the computer. All in all it is a good Lap.

I was looking for a machine that is lightweight yet snappy and DM4 mostly fills the bill.
But there are couple of unfortunate design decisions. For instance:
    - all LEDs are on side panels, what's more intriguing, battery led is between power plug and USB slot,
meaning it's quite tricky to check battery status when both power cord and an USB device are plugged.
now I really would like to hear from HP engineers (or whoever is responsible) about the rationale behind this
    - it takes quite some effort to open dvd drive bay, I manage to open this damn thing in 1 of 3 tries, and this is after month of practicing
    - SD slot is also very tight, loading a SD card isn't effortless at best, especially a microSD card in an adapter
