I purchased this printer after reluctantly having to dispose of my 15 year old Apple Laserwriter. The HP is very quick and has double-sided, print capability. First impressions are print quality very good although print looks feint in comparison with my old Apple printer and inkjet printers. This may be due to the higher resolution output of the HP.

All in all very pleased with it and good value for money for a general purpose, cheap to run black and white office printer.

Really long and detailed review for p2055d.

    INTRO:
We do a couple hundred pages a week and with that much turnaround our inkjet printers kept clogging and needed loads of ink resets and cleaning cycles. Totally frustrating and I hate the hassle of refilling my inkjets all the time, and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning whenever these dreaded white streaks appeared on my printouts (EPSON I'M LOOKING AT YOU).
My conclusion: inkjets are not really designed for heavy duty use, are a downright pain to maintain, can be expensive to run depending if you use CISS (dirt cheap), compatibles or originals (ink more expensive than gold). Inkjets do print nice photos and graphics when they actually work. Do keep an inkjet around for colour work, it will always perform better than lasers.

Solution, get a cheap to run mono laser printer. The P2055d is a high volume small business laser printer, designed to run with minimal hassle. No cleaning cycles, no clogging, no out of colour blue/red/yellow ink resets. It just prints in boring black and white and does exactly what it was designed to do.

    DESIGN AND BUILD:
Build quality is good, feels much sturdier than any inkjet out there. Good sturdy professional business design expected of HP, built like a brick with heavy solid plastics. The trays and doors open and close reassuringly well, no creaky cheap plastics here. Buy any cheap low price inkjet or laser and you will not get build quality like this. I guess you pay for what you get.

    PRINT QUALITY:
Crisp and sharp mono prints with text that surpasses inkjets on standard media. Need I say more? Graphics in mono do not look exciting however, but I assume people don't buy this printer for pretty photos and art projects.

I survived for a year and a bit on an inkjet printer, where the ink cost me three times the printer! - (Due to my needs of printing invoices & school & coursework), so I set out to get a laser printer. After trying two others, I got the 2055d - such an epic printer.

So, I start my journey with a Dell 1130, which after using for thirty seconds, decided to set itself on fire. Not a good start eh. After, I went for a HP P1102W, mainly due to how much it costs (limited budget for a fifteen year old). Yes, it worked without any smoke (just steam), but the papercurl was horrific! So, got the P2055d with prime 1PM, perfect.

    PACKAGING:

Ships in its own box, as the box is pretty big. Box has polystyrene things to keep it suspended and safe during transit, so it arrived in tiptop condition.

    SETUP:

Easy if you've set up other HP printers. Stick the disk in, install, follow instructions. Piece of cake.

    BUILD QUALITY:

Pretty awesome. Feels sturdy and not flimsy. No breakable plastic used much (the little paper stopper at the top of the printer could come off, but this isnt major.

    PRINT SPEED:

Fifty page document, with screenshots each page, printed in 120 seconds. Okayish.
12 page document, (Science Pastpaper) - WITH DUPLEX, printing in 20 seconds.

    PAPER CURL:

Nothing much. Make sure 'Less Paper Curl' is switched on. Setting the default paper type to 'Light 55-75gsm' also helps.

    OVERALL:

Pretty epic. Simple, functional, with duplexing. I have it networked via a Network USB hub, so its accessible by any PC in the house.
If you want a good, sturdy printer, BUILT TO LAST, and has a massive duty cycle, get this! You wont regret it. Perfect for students printing massive amounts of items a month and small buisnesses alike.

Top product with solid build quality and looks smart in the home office! Easy to setup and easy to configure. I have mine setup with a lower resolution (600dpi) and auto duplex to reduce my office paper and toner costs. There is a 1200dpi (economy mode) setting too, however I haven't done a full comparison yet. HP spec's state that the 1st page is printed in 8.5 seconds, and this is true - I've just printed a page in 8 seconds flat! If you use the reconditioned XL cartidges you are making a considerable cost saving per page compared to the official HP toner cartriges. It's relatively quiet when printing and when idle you can't hear a peep.

What's in the box? Printer + 2,500 capacity toner cartridge + Paper tray (250 page capacity) + Power cable + Software CD... No USB cable however I guess that's to be expected.

Would I recommend this printer ? absolutely...
