    5.0 out of 5 stars well-priced 15.6" i3 powered laptop 23 Nov 2010
    By Mike L
If you want a 15.6" laptop with a powerful i3 processor, this offering from HP blows most of the competition out of the water - but note that the graphics are integrated. Build quality is reasonable without being spectacular.

    - very good price for an i3 based machine
    - good battery life (4 hours)
    - fast hard drive (7200rpm)

    - on-chip graphics
    - The keyboard is only okay, and there's no numeric keyboard

Summary: If you're not looking for a games machine, this is a very strong contender in this size. Only Toshiba are comparable with the Toshiba Satellite C660-11K, although this doesn't have the faster hard drive.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This 15.6 inch screen HP laptop has an i3 processor with a good range of hardware and specification but comes at an excellent price. It will complete all every day tasks with ease.

It runs at 2.26 GHz and is supported by 3GB of RAM. It is certainly powerful enough for most applications. Having had a netbook in the past -this is a great upgrade and well worth it.

It has 3 usb ports, HDMI out, SD card slot for easy access to photos and at 2.2 kg is reasonably portable. With relatively light use the battery life was just on 4 hours.

It is attractively designed with a sound build quality and the touchpad works extremely well.

The layout of the main keys is standard, although there is a column of shortcut keys down the left hand side, but you should soon get used to that aspect. The keys are responsive with the lightest of touches as is the touchpad.

The "Magic Desktop" feature gives a safe and secure computer experience for children with the opportunity to enjoy games. That must be reassuring for parents.

A big plus is that it is fast. Start up, takes little time and it's performance is not hindered by numbers of open tabs and documents, which again is a distinct advantage and improvement on other models. Surfing the net is effortless and quick.

The visual display with high definition is sharp and clear with with a good quality image which was further evidenced when I played a DVD.

The integrated webcam works well, with again a vivid and clear representation on screen.

If you are in the market for a laptop, the three key ingredients, performance , specification and price are all met by this model.

Having used the laptop, I have found it to be excellent, user friendly and without issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far very impressed 25 Nov 2010
    Verified Purchase
I took delivery of this laptop yesterday, and must say that so far I am very impressed. The general performance of the laptop is excellent, which is partly due to the i3 processor, but mainly due to the 7200rpm disk drive. Also I am very impressed with the build quality, the pattern on the metal like material (maybe it is some form of metal) that covers most of the laptop makes it feel like it is going to be hard wearing, also the chassis feels good and strong. The glossy surround to the screen attracts finger prints like a magnet...but that is just the way of things these days. The keyboard appears to be in the new style of keyboards, but operates just like any other and feels like it will last. I have had many laptops over the past 20 years, and whilst they fundamentally don't change, the performance just keeps on improving and the cost keeps dropping. I find it hard to believe how I got this laptop for 399....although I notice that the price has gone up to 449 now...I guess I was lucky.

I am also impressed with the HP preloaded software, especially the "Magic desktop" which gives a safe desktop environment for children to use the computer and includes many games etc. that they can enjoy. The setup process, including registration and setup of internet security was a breeze and very well explained.

The only downsides are that it doesn't have a discrete graphics system, so hardcore gaming is out of the question... but all the usual 3D on line games works fine..so my 4 yr old son is happy. Also , compared to my work laptop (which was ~ 3 times the price) this laptop is relatively heavy, but I guess that is how they make it so cheap by using steel in the chassis instead of titanium or other expensive metals.

    Overall extremely impressed..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop for the price 15 July 2011
    Verified Purchase
A few months ago I had around 400 worth of camera equipment lying around that I didn't use, and since every computer in the house was at the time very outdated, I decided to sell off the excess camera stuff and buy a HP G62-b18SA, after I'd handled one and found out how gorgeous it was. That decision turned out to be a very good one.

Aesthetics aside, the spec of the machine makes it worthwhile right away. It comes with a fast 7200RPM hard drive - which is unusual in laptops, and a nice beefy core i3 processor. Don't let the fact that the number "3" being lower than 5 and 7, (the other processors in the intel core i* range) fool you; this beastie will still run circles around most Core2's out there and since it is a hyperthreaded dual core processor it will give some older quad core processors a good run for the money.

For the price you pay the performance is amazing right out of the box - and for less than 100 extra I upgraded to 4GB of RAM (the maximum) and an SSD in place of the hard drive, which takes the already great performance to absolutely manic levels, for the price point of the computer. bootup and shutdown times take mere seconds and nigh on every program launches instantaneously.

The on-chip graphics performance with the core i3 is also very impressive; I can play Left 4 Dead on this computer with no discernable lag at all, albeit on low settings. At higher settings the game is STILL PLAYABLE in most scenarious but just starts to lag a little uncomfortably in complex settings. I also see many videos online of people playing Crysis on the laptop, however I don't know how playable it actually is in reality.

Sound quality on the laptop is very impressive.
