I didn't expect it to come with ink cartridges, so finding one tri-colour and one black cartridge as I unpacked the box was a nice surprise. The printer is lightweight and mightn't feel sturdy to some standards, plus it's rather noisy in my opinion, but for my university student needs (printing around 50 pages a week) it works fine. There's a handy function to check how much ink is left and I recommend getting the 301XL each time to make that extra little saving in the long run, especially as I feel this printer will last me a while.

The set up was easy, but finding out midway that a USB cable was not supplied (and the instructions sounded as if you would find one in the box) annoyed me very much. There was no mention of needing to buy the cable separately, so take note.

Bought this for my daughter at University as her last printer (my old one) finally collapsed under the strain of University life. I already have a Deskjet 3050 all-in-one which is superb value for money and additionally HP provide Linux drivers (which I use) so stayed with the brand.
Printer arrived on time and was easy to set up (on my daughter's Windows Vista laptop). It's black shiny plastic so not rock-solid but for the price it seems good value. She has been using it for about 4 weeks now and it chugs along nicely.
This is a good bargain printer for a student - does what it's supposed to do in a reasonable time. Haven't printed photos but colours are good in documents and I can't tell the difference between documents printed on my 3050 and this one.
It's footprint is relatively small (important for a student's bedsit) and has two cartridges (Black and tri-colour). Currently the cartridges (HP) can be got from Amazon for around £9 (black) and £10 (colour) but I've noticed that compatible cartridges are just starting to appear on the market for half that price.
If you want a basic printer that's good value then this one will not disappoint.

I Purchased this printer for my daughter who does a lot of crafting etc... And when it arrived it did seem a little bit plastic but as they say never judge a book by its cover . Its been brilliant she loves it and uses it daily and the ink she got with it is still going and the quality of prints are great aswell . I would say to anyone if your looking for printer this is the one to go for.It also isnt a huge printer which was great for her too as she keeps it on her desk with laptop plugged into it.

I am very pleased with this product. It is quite a wonderful value for the price. It is working as advertised. It is highly recommended to all, especially those who do not have enough space for the much-space-occupying printers.

where do I start ?
Nice printer, small, compact and easy to set up... However, the stupidest packaging design has been provided by HP which DOES NOT INCLUDE A CABLE to connect to a computer, which, (since the printer is not wireless), means that it cannot be used until you buy the cable which matches.

The instructions clearly show that the printer needs to be connected to the a computer via a cable, and the cable is even produced and sold by HP, and yet they didn't have time to throw it in the box along with everything else...WHY, HP, WHY ???

then charge us an extra £1.50 and give us the cable... at least tell us that a cable isn't included, and give us a link,
so we can find it ourselves... But selling a "fully functioning printer" without a cable, and expecting "fully satisfied customers" is unacceptable.

Now that you know about this flaw, i suggest you buy this printer together with a connection cable, which can be found be following this link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00004Z5DD/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
or typing "USB to HP printer cable" into Google.
I hope you found this helpful and don't make the same mistake as I did.

Peace!
( KONY 2012 )

I bought this because it was very cheap and could be used as a reserve printer. It installed easily with good visual instructions and the test print was quick, quiet and looked really good on fast draft mode. I have only done B&W so far.

It even comes with a carry bag with handles to cart it about!

I have always found HP printers to be good to use, reliable and cheap to run.

I have had my printer for less than a year and it broke down after 11 months with not a lot of use. Hp then changed the printer for me and now 4 months later this one has broken down too. I called them up and they said the new replacement printer was only warranted for 3 months. Yes a brand new replacement printer fit for the bin after 3 months. How can anyone have confidence in HP if they only guarantee their printers for 3 months if they have to replace them! A very poor show and very poor customer service. Even their own staff agreed that their policy was not great for customers.

its the last time I ever buy a HP printer as I feel like I have been conned. I am now left with 6 expensive hp cartridges, which cost more than the printer, so watch out if you think your getting a cheap printer as you will be stung when you buy the ink and it may only last you less than 14 months!
