A CUSWORTH AND KAELLY NOVEL

MURDER, MYSTERY, WHODUNNIT

Twist on the traditional whodunnit mystery with a vampiric bite, a love triangle and a link to the past. Who killed an American business man in his bed with the Sabatier knife? How does this link to the 1920's, a Lady, her gardener and vampires?

Belle Marsh writes the first of the forthcoming series of Cusworth and Kaelly novels.

Belle Marsh interview.
Q What made you want to write about vampires
A I have always had a fascination with vampires for as long as I can remember. Obviously the hammer horror films have an influence, but it does not matter if it is Anne Rice, twilight or true blood. I love them all.
Q So,why did you decide to change the genre
A The principle reason was that I also love midsomer murders, Inspecter Lynley, Columbo and Agatha Christie so I wanted a modern take on the classic mystery novel
. Q What about the characters
.A. I wanted to have an element of unrequited love because that tension between the characters is really important. Theynneed each other but are always somehow in an impossible situation
.Q How did you come up with the concept of an English village.
A Just in my head. Then I drew a map and let my imagination run wild

Like vampires? then you will love this book! The last year and more the nation has gone wild about vampires with each author putting their slant on the vampire world and this book is a part of that without a doubt. A must have for vampire fans and perhaps none vampire fans! Right now this book is free and well worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Proofreading! 2 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This has the makings of a good yarn but is spoiled by poor grammar (your instead of you're, their instead of they're etc), bizarre lack of punctuation and poor spelling. I was particularly amused by the "untidy boarders" outside a house.

If you're not bothered by such things it's an enjoyable-enough story but be warned that on occasion the reported speech is not separated from the narrative at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!! 5 July 2012

Recommended to me by a friend, I was skeptical about a vampire story, having been disappointed in the past. But I must say that by the time I read the first chapter I was hooked. The writing is imaginative, the story compelling, and the characters came to life. I found that I was unable to put it down. I cannot recommend this book enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good 28 Jan 2012

Just read this book! I really like how it combines two era's the 1920's and present day, it is not like a normal vampire novel or a mystery novel, the combination of the two really works because it is not the norm. It is well written and there are lots of twists in the plot which I enjoyed. I really like the unrequited love between the main characters. It is not too dark and you don't need to be a goth to read this book. it combines the past with modern day which is really clever and anyone who enjoys either mystery or vampire books should definitely invest in a read.

2.0 out of 5 stars So very disappointing 24 July 2012

To say I was disappointed with this vampire mystery is an understatement. This book desperately needed the services of an editor. I had several issues with this book and almost, almost stopped reading at the 48% mark.

It is a shame because the mystery component was good. Vampire detectives and vampire hierachy, were something that I wanted to read about.

However, early in the book in the 1920' the author had some characters speaking in what I would describe as cockney slang and suddenly they stop. The vampire Ludwig was meant to speak with a German accent I presume because the author had inserted "zee" and then that speech pattern suddenly stopped.
Incorrect words flourished your for you're, abstruse - what does that mean? The main female character was Liv but Live was used several times. At times the female character started the conversation but the author stated that it was Jimmy the male character's POV - it got very, very confusing. I found myself going back pages to try to pick up the thread of the story. There was one instance where the author refers to Liv as Jen.

I read the book, but it was very hard going in places. I repeat the author needs the services of a good editor, I feel as if I have wasted time and money, and No, I won't be buying any other offerings from the author.
