Book Description

1 Mar 2013
In the mid-1980s, a young man from a tough Manchester estate exploded onto the soccer hooligan scene. Known to all as 'Hotshot', he was addicted to terrace violence and wanted to follow in the footsteps of the older United hooligans. He put together a gang of his own, the Young Munichs, and led through years of organised looting and violence. This was the heyday of hooliganism. As the years went by, the hectic lifestyle took its toll and the days of wanton violence were replaced by a battle for survival. This tell-all features contributions from fellow hooligans.

5.0 out of 5 stars interesting 2 Sep 2013
By Stevie
A good read. I recommend it for anyone with an interest in football, fashion and life on the wrong side of the tracks. I've read other books like this and this was something new in that it explored the environments that the characters came from and their lives outside hooliganism to a greater extent.

5.0 out of 5 stars good book 8 Mar 2013
By Jim
bit biased coz im a man u fan but this is easily the best of this type of book that ive read. the thing that makes it stand out is that its not just a big list of fights. it goes deep into the culture of hooliganism and what types of people get involved and has a lot about the crime/drugs/music/fashion associated with it. interestin to see bits from man city an liverpool firms in a united book as well an get thier perspective as well as the bit from the female hooligan. have to say its very well written an comes across as if a lot of thought has been put into what regular fans will find interestin an not just what 'lads' will want to know. lots of different characters writing bits helps to break it up a lot an keep it readable as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars One old gorton boy to another! 26 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Being an oldGorton boy myself,I can honestly say that the details and enviroment described in the book are spot on and well described.
This isn't a read just for reds,it is a good insight into inner city street/football culture through the eyes of a youngen growing up on the frontline!

Couldn't put it down, probably the best one I've read for ages. Great to get the oppositions view and not just from the main man

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good book 29 April 2014
By Dr M
Basically, someone who liked to have a scrap, who grew up into someone who still liked to have a scrap (and apparently influenced what other people wore while they had scraps).

Not a lot more to take out of this book... Would recommend reading something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars utter 'bobbins' to quote the author
I bought this, being both a United fan and someone with a fascination in the casuals era of football hooliganism and general 'nawtiness' of the 70's/80's match goers. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Hotshot book review.
Ordinary book. I`ve read a lot of books on this subject and this is one of the worst. Lousy childhood, found outlet in football violence, took drugs, then went straight, blah blah... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so Hot
As Hooligan memoirs go this is pretty poor. The writer has done his best with what he was given but HOTSHOT is not so hot at telling the stories. Read more
