When I saw this book advertised I was worried it wouldn't contain the full story or the medals list and discharge list at the back. It did! This book will enlighten you to the 1/4th Battallion's movements during the dreadful First World War. I was researching about my grandfather and it was lovely to see his photograph in this publication. When I was younger, I had to read this book in my local library as it was classed as a reference book them. Now that it is out of copyright it is available at last publically. If you have a member of your family who was in this battalion of the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment, this book will inform you about the history of their part in the war. Every member of this battalion deserves our humble thanks and recognition, so if you are interested in the history of World War 1, this book is worth reading as part of your research.

5.0 out of 5 stars History of the 1/4th Duke of Wellingtons 11 Mar 2012
By s.
I have only skimmed through this book so far but have thoroughly enjoyed what I've read. The 1/4th is of particular interest to me as my great, great uncle was killed on the Somme whilst serving wih the Battalion. I also found from the book, that a friends great grandfather was with one of the units who relieved my uncles out of the front line, two days before he (her grandfather, not my uncle)won the VC. This has all worked to bring the book alive for me and make what I've read so far all the more interesting. My uncle was only 19 when he was killed and I'm researching his service, so this book will be a great help and it will be nice to be able to trace something (all be it in general terms) his last two months.
