I have only skimmed through this book so far but have thoroughly enjoyed what I've read. The 1/4th is of particular interest to me as my great, great uncle was killed on the Somme whilst serving wih the Battalion. I also found from the book, that a friends great grandfather was with one of the units who relieved my uncles out of the front line, two days before he (her grandfather, not my uncle)won the VC. This has all worked to bring the book alive for me and make what I've read so far all the more interesting. My uncle was only 19 when he was killed and I'm researching his service, so this book will be a great help and it will be nice to be able to trace something (all be it in general terms) his last two months.
