Product Description

A gorgeous full–color guide to high dynamic range (HDR) photography

With HDR, people can boost detail in the light and shadow areas of a photograph, enhancing crispness and clarity to an astonishing degree–and heightening expressiveness and dramatic impact. This beautiful book reveals the secrets of spectacular HDR images, covering everything from camera set–up and basic Photomix or Photoshop manipulation to toning, reducing noise, creating panoramas, layering images, and adding vignettes and other finishing touches. Hundreds of striking full–color images taken around the world illustrate techniques and showcase the creative power of this increasingly popular technique.

Pete Carr (Liverpool, UK) is one of the leading specialists in HDR photography. His work has been featured by Professional Photographer, JPG Magazine, DSLR User, the BBC, and various galleries around the UK. Robert Correll (Fort Wayne, IN) is a digital photo expert who writes monthly photo retouching articles and tutorials for the Paint Shop Pro Photo magazine and has his own professional photo retouching and restoring business.

HDR photo workshop 27 Jun 2009

I have actually returned this book for credit. Whilst it is probably a good buy for a COMPLETE beginner it devotes too much time and space to the basics of photography that, in my opinion, anyone who has reached the stage of developing an interest in HDR, already knows.

Limited 28 Jun 2009

Ive always been impressed with Pete Carr's photos and I thought this book would explain the process of how to create HDR in detail. Unfortunatley the book does not do this. It only skims over the main software photomatix. In fact it only has around 4-5 screenshots of the software.

I agree with the other reviewer that the book has too much basics in it. Composition and the rules of thirds are covered over and over again.

There is a lot of duplication in the book and constant reminders to shoot in the "golden hours".

I wouldn't recommend this book if you have ever tried HDR and looking to improve your technique. This book most certainly wont do that.

You can learn how to create HDR on Pete Carr's website better than you can with this book. Great shame.

On a plus note there are some cracking photos in there.

i agree with the first 2 reviewers. If you are an established amateur already shooting decent HDR shots then there is nothing in this book that will give you any further insight. I would argue that even if you know the basics there is little here. Too much of the book concentrates on single RAW conversions, which is NOT HDR. Save yourself a few quid if you are looking for a book on HDR photography then this is not it. Nothing ground breaking here at all

Disappointing
The book gets 2 stars because some of the examples of HDR photos are excellent. Apart from that, it really is aimed at people new to photography and starting out in HDR. Read more
