You cannot moan at the very reasonable price but you must be aware of the conditions needed to obtain good measurements. It's a sonic device with a laser pointer but it needs a good clear path around the laser beam, possibly ½ metre, to be able to receive its echo/reading. So if there is anything in the way, the sound might bounce off a nearer item and hence your reading will appear to be shorter. It's no good trying to measure the distance of something through a narrow tunnel surrounded by objects. The sound will be deflected off the wrong object and your readings will be incorrect. I would imagine that the destination surface must be perpendicular to the beam otherwise the sound will not be deflected directly back to the device. Also, it measures to two places of decimals, so a reading in metres is recording down to centimetres not millimetres. Consequently, you may be up to 5mm out in you reading if the device is measuring to the nearest centimetre. So, if you are a tradesman reliant on accurate measurements down to the exact millimetre, then this is not for you but for an estate agent measuring open rooms, this performs just fine and you could not find better value. It needs a 9v battery which you could not expect to be included with the item at this low price. A battery would also increase the postage costs as this item is coming from the USA and it might also raise safety concerns for an airmail item. The buttons are prominent and the readings are clear, but as the item is made from light plastic, I would suggest finding a hard case in which to store it if you are keeping it amongst your tools in a tool bag. It's recordings appear accurate down to the nearest centimetre. So good value and a very handy item but you must have a clear unobstructed one metre tunnel to gain a good reading.
