Amazing value for such a great piece of technology. Simple to use, especially with the laser to identify where you're measuring.
It's been used for lots of different things since I got it, from checking the engine temperature of a vintage car to monitoring the temperature of an induction hob.

I saw a simmilar one in use on The Great British Bake Off, so now indispensible for thekitchen apparently!

inexpensive and handy 23 Feb. 2013
By L. Chen - Published on Amazon.com

This is a pretty good infrared thermometer that rivals professional ones that cost many times more money (about $100 and more). It has a fixed value for the thermal emissivity while a professional one allows for an input value. Because of the natural variability of that value for different materials, the temperature readings from this thermometer can never be as accurate as better than a degree. However, that is usually good enough for checking around the house for drafty corners and thinning of insulation behind walls. The question about whether it is a 12 to 1 or 8 to 1 divergence for the detection cone is not essential for most applications that this infrared thermometer is good for around the house. I like the automatic off feature so that I don't have to remember turning it off. It does take almost a second for a reading to come up, So as you scan across a wall, move the laser beam slowly and stay at one spot long enough to get a true reading. The backlit light is very handy in dark corners too.

PURRFECT KAT TOY! 19 Jan. 2013
By E. Larsen - Published on Amazon.com

This unit is exceptionally accurate - it showed absolutely the identical temperature measurements to the 1/10th of a degree when aimed at something as my "real" thermometer showed.

BEST OF ALL, the laser pointer makes an easy to hold and use KAT TOY!

It has the added benefit of being able to show when the kitty is getting overheated when playing.

Cheap, fairly accurate, perfect for RC 2 April 2013
By Kevin Nicholls - Published on Amazon.com

I picked this up to check my RC motor temperature for proper gearing, and to that end, this is a wonderfully cheap way of accomplishing that task.

And while the price is low, I was happy that it didn't have that bargain-basement cheap feel to it. Nobody who knows the Fluke brand is going to confuse this with a Fluke in a million years, but it feels a step above Harbor Freight.

The laser sight helps get you to the general area, for temperature-taking. But, it's hardly as accurate as you'd think. Added bonus: my dog loves chasing the laser pointer.

As for how accurate the temperature is, I'd say it's probably got a +/- 4 degree variance. Not great for industrial use, but definitely adequate for "Is my motor overheating" or "Is that object hot or cold?". For the price, you just can't go wrong.
