Well, a lot of people are caught up in the pod HD units. I sold my HD300 on ebay. The sound was thin, and there are just far too many parameters to fiddle with.
It sounded quite thin compared to analogue stuff. I have a big muff 4 pie that sounds hugely thicker and more dynamic. My cheap solid state amp (Peavey Bandit, which costs less than the pod) also sounds much better.
People may say I just dont know how to use digital sound processors, but I also have a Boss Micro BR (very cheap) and that sounds better. Also, Im highly technical by profession; I know how to use complex technical equipment.
I spent a lot of money, and a lot of time, on the pod. It didnt work for me. It could be very convenient for some, as an all in one solution. But the reality is it doesnt sound that great.
I really dont understand in this day and age why expensive digital equipment cant compete with 4 old fashioned transistors; like those inside my big muff.
Perhaps Im stupid and just cant see it......
Three stars for being a potentially very convenient all in one solution.

The product is excellent. I bought it with the idea firmly in mind of setting it up via the computer: editing and creating banks of sounds and storing them on the computer disc. All that is possible and intuitive. Editing things on the unit itself is slightly less visual and therefore less obvious, but as I say the idea is to run it and set it up before gigs from the computer. I can't see many guitarists relying on complex editing menus in a live situation. Tweeking things maybe, which is fairly easy once the unit is away from the PC. Sum total, editing is well taken care of. Sounds are first class and the amount of variation available means that almost anything you're looking for is there, with persistence. Half the creativity is getting to the sound you want. Upon reflection, if I was buying again, I would pay the little bit extra and go for the HD400 because it has an external FX loop and more onboard FX. The 300 is very versatile and hasn't left me wanting in any sense as yet, but it would be reassuring to have capacity in hand, perhaps. Anyway, if you are a guitarist who wants to consolidate many different things in one rugged box, buy one. Oh, and digital amp modelling is definitely the future, they sound and feel exactly like the "real" thing.

For the price if you paid this with a DT25 or DT50 combo this is a great box - this is perfect for my live setup. For recording and ultimately creativity get the Bean or HD500 - but this box sounds spot on the stomp box FX are vary varied and sound great. It feels like it is built like a tank - why no on/off switch ?
