It was a fun read...very much like those suspense and detective stories I'd grown up with, but intertwined in the plot is the family's quest for The Truth, accompanied by the love they had manifested to those around them. That's what I liked about the book...this "human" side to it. And I want to give Peretti credit for this.
However, realistically, the characters' lives and occupations are almost impossible to realize. Sort of like the Bobbsey Twins, except the older twins (Bob and Nan) become Nate and Sarah Springfield.
But, hey, in fiction, anything goes! It's indeed a book you'd want to let pre-teens and teenagers read, and, for that matter, something they'd enjoy doing! Especially since reading is not exactly high on the list of activities of kids these days.
