Gorgeous and versatile watch for the money 18 Dec 2011
By Andrew Draper - Published on
I am not a watch expert or a watch collector by any means. I was just looking for a solid automatic watch with a good swiss movement and simple styling appropriate for business casual and weekend wear. I found what I was looking for with the Hamilton Khaki Officer. At 44mm, this watch is neither too small too big. I have somewhat small wrists, so this watch looks bigger on my arm, but it by no means is one of those massive watches that seem to be the trend nowadays. Don't get me wrong, it will get you some rather nice compliments. The Hamilton Khaki Officer has a very classic look with the soft leather band, easily readable face and ETA 2824-2 swiss movement with a sweeping second hand. Though most people won't have a chance to see the back of your watch, this one has the sapphire crystal backing that allows you to see the inner workings of the movement. The intrinsic value this brings is totally worth being able to gaze at the inside of your watch whenever you take it off your wrist. I will also include, this watch can be manually wound in the chance that you either A) don't wear the watch every day or B) don't move around enough for the watch to charge itself. It's a nice feature, in my opinion. As far as accuracy is concerned, mine out of the box gains on average, 10 seconds a day. This is not uncommon with automatic watches, but I am considering taking it in for adjustment. It is not a huge concern for me though. In conclusion, this watch delivers classic beauty, great quality, and is surprisingly comfortable to wear every day.

Hamilton Khaki Officer Auto 20 Jun 2012
By Nick - Published on
This is my first semi-luxury/entry level mechanical watch. I have always been attracted to the elegant simplicity of Hamiltons as well as their heritage, despite now being part of the Swatch Group. I can't add much more than the other reviewer, being an amateur myself, but I am in love with this watch. It has a nice heft too it but not too heavy, and feels very solid. It's my first experience with sapphire crystal, so I am interested to see how it holds up. I bought it to be an everyday knock-about watch - as a piece like this is made to be worn and used. Mine gains about 5-7 seconds a day out of the box after a month. I've read that it may require a break-in period before all the oils are evenly distributed after settling while in storage. This isn't entirely terrible for mechanical watches however, and you'd have to spend exponentially more to see a significant increase in accuracy. I like that all the numerals are displayed, where the date window doesn't obstruct anything; thats always been an annoyance to me. The lume is pretty good as well, the numbers themselves are painted as well as the minute and hour hands. In near total darkness, it is readable through the night, though noticeably fading after about 30 minutes. The manual wind function is nice as well, though shaking works just as well to restart it if necessary.

My only qualm is the size of the hands. I like the 44mm size which is probably about the limit for my wrists. The pictures though are a bit deceiving; in person the hands are just a hair too thin and throw the overall balance of the piece off a bit especially compared to the over-sized numerals. They'd be fine on a slightly smaller watch like a 40 or 42, but 44 seems a bit too large for their use. Regardless, the hands are nicely designed and still gorgeous to look at. The bit of red on the second hand is a nice touch.

UPDATE: Don't take this thing near water. Though rated "water resistant to 100M" it failed to handle splashing in a pool. I know, I know, any watch without a screw down crown probably shouldn't be taken in the water. But I had to try it and was sadly disappointed. It fogged up afterwards and I've been waiting a few weeks for it to clear despite multiple attempts with a hair dryer. Next stop: watch repair.

AMAZON WARRANTY: Amazon provides a 2 year limited warranty for this watch since Hamilton doesn't recognize them as an authorized dealer. I eventually followed that route to fix the moisture issue above. The claim process was fairly straight forward, I paid to ship it to their repair shop, and after about 3-4 weeks got it back in tip top shape. For $5 shipping, I was pretty pleased with the experience.

First Hamilton and I love it! 8 Oct 2013

I've been shopping for a good everyday work watch and finally narrowed my search down to the Hamilton Khaki. Received it promptly and with no issues.

The watch itself is simple and good looking. It's a very masculine watch and though it has a nice heft, it is not heavy. It is a large watch, but not cartoonish in it's size. It looks perfect on my wrist.

Very easy to set and the screw down crown is a plus. I have no idea how many seconds +/- per day or whatever, but I know I love the look and utility of this watch.

I was concerned about the band but I really like it. I thought it might be a bit stiff and require some breaking in but it felt good right out of the box and really goes well with the watch.

100% happy with this purchase and now I am looking for a white-insert Hamilton to add to my collection of watches.

Great, classic looking watch 5 Jan 2013

This is the second Hamilton watch I've bought, and it's my favorite of the two. It's well-crafted, comfortable, and large enough to attract attention without being bulky. I keep it in a watch winder when not wearing it, and I haven't had any out-of-the-ordinary issues with it losing time. The leather band is very stiff out of the box and will squeak the first few times you wear it, but once the leather is broken in, it fits like a dream. Highly recommend this watch.
