Since 2002 Hamburger Eyes has grown from a modest collection of pamphlets to a cult underground periodical chronicling the often uncomfortable reality of every day life. Here, in stunningly presented hardback form, is an extensive collection of some of the best shots that the journal has to offer, snapped by magazine masterminds such as Stefan Simikich, Jason Roberts Dobrin, David Potes and many other various contributors. Sometimes hilarious but often awkwardly and stomach-churningly real, the book juxtaposes eye-opening shots of human deformity and debauchery alongside portraits of utter beauty and genuine human compassion. In a world where the idea of human fulfilment is fabricated by large corporations with the purpose of selling a product, it is beautifully refreshing to see the capturing of sincere contentment. Flicking through Hamburger Eyes is like walking down a street and having the best and most unfortunate of society flung before your very eyes in the space of minutes. It is often unsettling yet utterly essential to understanding the world around you that many try to filter out.
