Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
It takes a certain sort of band to fill Wembley stadium, one unafraid to embrace scale, flirt with pomposity, and perform the odd grand gesture. Watching Muse's live CD/DVD H.A.A.R.P--recorded over two nights in June 2007--you're left wondering if Wembley is quite big enough to hold them. From the grand opening, when Muse ascend from an underground chamber and walk down a central ramp flanked by men in yellow chemical splash suits to Matt Bellamy's lengthy, florid turns at the grand piano, no opportunity is missed to make H.A.A.R.P seem anything less than a spectacle. Shot in high definition, the camera-work is as snappy and dynamic as any movie blockbuster, with special attention to the crowd, who are picked out with sometimes breathtaking detail. Fans may gripe over the tracklisting--the DVD has been edited down, meaning four tracks, including "Bliss" have been left on the cutting floor–-but casuals should be satisfied with the selection: there's the hits ("Supermassive Black Hole", "Knights of Cydonia") and on the DVD, a noble rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good".--Louis Pattison

CD Description
This first full live album (discounting 2002's part-studio 'Hullabaloo') from the epic Devonshire prog rockers is the follow-up to 2006's hugely successful studio set 'Black HolesAnd Revelations'. Recorded at their massive Wembley Stadiumshows in June 2007, this CD/DVD package captures the band, who have always been renowned for their live work, in blistering form. The title, too, becomes Muse's reputation - HAARPis the US military's High-frequency Active Auroral ResearchProgram, which has long been a bete noire of conspiracy theorists everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muse, The ultimate live album?, 17 Mar 2008
By Big Jim "Big Jim" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Now you'd expect "fans" of the band to blindly praise this set, especially, if like most of the other reviewers below, you were at one of the shows at Wembley. So they may be a tad biased. Now, although I've bought all their studio albums, I've never felt the inclination to see them live so I reckon I can offer an opinion from the outside. An opinion from someone who likes and enjoys all sorts of music, an opinion from someone who isn't in thrall to the band, who will listen critically but with an open mind to an album. An opinion from someone with no axe to grind either...so what do I think?

THIS IS BLOOMIN' GREAT!!!!!

I thought I knew what to expect here, but quite frankly I was blown away by the sound, the enthusiasm, the exuberance, the technical skill, the sheer joi de vivre and monstrous noise on the CD...and the DVD is more of the same with knobs on.

Mindblowingly, stupendously top notch!

One of the best live albums ever - and that includes Live at Leeds!

5.0 out of 5 stars best live band around, 1 April 2008
I'm only going to write about the DVD, essentially because I went on the 17th when it was filmed, so I haven't had much inclination to listen to the audio cd from the 16th. Although if it was as good as the 17th it should merit a listen.
I've been a big fan of Muse for a while (and will concede that it makes this far from impartial), but this was the first time I'd ever been to see them. I was not disappointed in the slightest. From start to finish they delivered an explosive performance, with the amazing music, spectacular set design, added bonuses like the balloon gymnasts during blackout, and a stadium filled with such exhiliration. A must have for any Muse fan, and a good indication of why they are the most exciting live band I've yet seen. My only slight disappointment in watching the DVD back is that they cut the song (that may or may not have been bliss) where they threw tens of huge confetti-filled balloons into the audience. Magical moment ommitted from the DVD. Oh well, buy it :D

5.0 out of 5 stars it could have been a whole lot beter, 1 April 2008
By A. lidgard "compu'er sez noooooo" (yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
First of all, let me be the first person to write a review for this DVD.

i have read all the previous 19 reviews and not one bothered to talk about the DVD, people even reviewing it before its released.

i have to say i wasnt at the gigs as i was on holiday, so i was more than chomping at the bit just like Pink Floyds 'Pulse' DVD for this to come out and despite the 5 stars (i cant give muse live anything less) i cant help feeling a bit dissappointed.

good points:
set design
matt
chris
dom
lighting
wembley
and the crowd

bad points
camera
sound
editing

when i bobed the DVD in for the first time i was pleased to see audio options, chose the DTS option cranked up the volume and sat back. the intro was excellent, a classical entrance with a twist and then straight into KOC, but then the ambience seemed to go, i like to hear the crowd in the background but at times it seemed so sanitised as though the crowd were only giving it some at the start and end of a song. i was at Reading in '06 and went to manchester arena later that year and i know Muse fans make noise and this in my opinion would have benefitted the dvd had some background noise was filtered in.
next is the shoddy camera work combined with the quick editing. it feels right to have this style for a rock concert but it was much more than that. the visuals alone deserved more air time, matt's incredible skill with his guitar was more deserving of extended shots so us mere mortals can appreciate it more and i dont think dom or chris were featured as much as they could have been.
it doesnt detract from the the performance, setting or the amazing crowd, but i am dissappointed by the overall quality of the DVD production and the sound, which is confusing because the CD is the opposite sound wise.

im hoping to get a ticket for the V festival as my appetite for MUSE is growing year by year, its time to put Glastonbury in the history books and create another ground breaking festival performance
