A beautifully produced book!
This looks like it came from the Victorian era!
With a cover to simulate the 'look' of leather, and scroll typeface for the titles. The end-papers are like victorian wallpaper.
Which all goes to create the right atmosphere, while you settle down to read a fantastic version of the story.

The art ranges from passable in some panels to very dynamic, with superb colour through-out.
The writing is tight and realistic driving the story at a great pace.

All in all then, a superb version and a nice introduction for someone who does'nt know the story.

Superb adaptation 9 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
I grew up with the 1950s film version of "The War of the Worlds", followed by the enjoyable but greatly mangled musical version from Jeff Wayne, then Hollywood's second attempt with Tom Cruise. The original novel remains a classic, but this adaptation by Ian Edginton runs it close. This is a version that is faithful to the original text, but is matched with imaginative artwork from someone who seems to have actually read what H.G. Wells described and then brought it to life. The original novel's social commentary is actually more subtly achieved in this version, with Disraeli's artwork hinting where Wells emphasized.
I bought this for my young son as an introduction to the original novel, but it turns out I end up reading it from end to end every time he takes it off the shelf... Highly recommended, this has changed my opinion of graphic novels for good.

The quality of the book is lovely-very good; vivid, vibrant colours are used throughout the book to tell the story which tries to faithfully adhere to Well's original story. My only disappointment was the design of the martians and their fighting machines. I would agree with others in that it is the best comic adaptation yet, though the Marvel No.14 is quite good too. When you open the pages you want to read it from beginning to end almost immediately; it's not a work just to be read once and put away either. I was sceptical about 'Scarlet Traces' but I will buy that too.
