I needed a wireless mouse that could control my Home Theatre PC from the other side of my living room and the Gyration was one of the few wireless mice designed for this kind of distance. The range of the mouse is superb, it's RF so no line of site required, the RF receiver is a USB dongle that plugs into the PC. Setting it all up takes just a few minutes, just install the software from the CD and straight away the PC detects the mouse and you're up and running.

The mouse can also be used 'in air' like a Wii controller. To do this, just press a button on the bottom of the mouse, it then detects all motion, so waving it around causes the mouse pointer to move in exactly the same way. This is a very handy feature but I do find it can be a little clumsy. You need to move it only subtly in the air, huge movements cause the pointer to fly all over the place. Also, sometimes the pointer refuses to move at all and the button on the bottom of the mouse has to be pressed 2 or 3 times for the in-air functionality to return. Generally I no longer use the in-air feature, it's easier just using the mouse the traditional way. Also be warned this mouse is a battery guzzler, it requires 2 AAAs and they don't last long as the RF signal is quite a drain, so make sure you switch the mouse off when you're not using it, it has an on/off button on the bottom of it.

Overall though I'm very pleased with this mouse, wireless reception is excellent and it's perfect for a Home Theatre PC setup.

This is great! Expensive but I use it on my duvet or jeans while laying back on my couch/sofa watching tv with one on my laptop to the side of me. You can also use it as a remote control when listening to music and working a distance away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gyration Air Mouse 18 Oct 2012
By C. Vile
I use an ergonomic keyboard which is quite wide, so conventional ergonomic mice don't help with my wrist pain as I have to reach over too far to use them causing more problems.

I bought the Gyration Air mouse, and use it all the time in the air. This means that it eats batteries unfortunately so would be better if it was rechargeable, and I have tried all makes and types of long life and high tech battery. I also had some batteries "explode" in the mouse, and was told it was the safety device going off, due to batteries either being in the wrong way round or a short in the mouse, what was that all about? Hasn't happened since.

I find that for long periods of time this mouse makes my hands hurt, you have to keep the button underneath depressed every time you move the mouse in the air, it is not very comfortable and I had a better mouse before but it isn't made now.

Note: I have found out today that if you double click the underneath button you don't need to depress it all the time, wish I knew that before, now I will have to adjust and try not to touch the button as I use the mouse.

It is pretty good in the air, but it frequently loses contact and then the cursor sticks. The instructions say to press the buttons on receiver and mouse to connect, I find turning the mouse off and on again normally works but this is very annoying, and happens extremely frequently.

Since this review I have dropped the mouse on a number of occasions, this stopped the air feature working at all, and I contacted Gyration in the USA who were willing to replace it until they realised I was in the UK, then I had to contact my supplier who didn't want to know because I dropped it. Good news was it gradually started working in air again and within 4 days was back to normal, well as normal as it gets. Subsequent drops (due to my nerve damaged fingers) have resulted in the same thing happening, sometimes a second drop sorts it out again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool, needs a few improvements 22 Oct 2011
By kostas
I had serious problems with wrist pain but my work focuses around computers, so I was looking for an alternative mouse device. This little gadget did the job. My wrist pains are mostly gone and I can still control my PC anyway I want. Highly recommended but need a couple of improvements:

1. Reliability: The underside trigger in my first Gyration stopped working as it was supposed to. When you press that twice the mouse gets in air mode, but mine stopped doing that. I had to open it and use a silicon glue gun to make the trigger stick to always on air mode (which was fine since I always use it in air and not as a conventional mouse). After 6 more months the mouse got stuck by moving the pointer to the upper right corner of the screen. Couldn't fix that, and so I ordered a new one. So far (2 months) no problems.
2. It needs an option in the software so that you can choose the in-air option as always on, so that you don't have to use the trigger all the time. The mode automatically turns to conventional use when the mouse detects a surface but this is not convenient when you need it to always be in-air mode.

Overall, great tool that you learn to use it intuitively.
