Following hot on the heels of volume one, we are treated to another dollop of Balkan madness. There is a real cheeky energy to this growing genre which is spreading across the world's dancefloors like a forest fire.
At a recent set at the WOMAD festival in Wiltshire, DJ Russ Jones opened with Buscemi's Sahib Balkan, which is incidentally the first track on the album. The audience instantly forgot they were standing in mud, and were kicking their wellies high in the air, elbows akimbo with broad smiling faces...it's that infectious.
He soon followed with the second track, by La Reverdere with similar comic results. People just love kicking out their jamms to this stuff...
It's strange meld of virtuoso Romany insrumentation, bizarre time signatures, high octane BPMs, gypsy fiddle and accordian, hip hop, compelling beats, and sheer chutzpa is irresistible....and Russ 'n' Felix have picked the cream of the current crop with this collection.
Yes, resistance is futile... slide up onto the dancefloor, stick out those elbows, and get stomping!
