When you finally get tired of watching the conveyor belt pictures, the girl-meets-boy storyline and the prats Imran Khan and Ranveer Singh, do you come round to watching Guzaarish. Its dark storyline didn't appeal to me at first, but I warmed to it and gave it a chance.
The challenging role of Ethan Masceranas, a man with quadriplegia, is played with charm and passion by Hrithik. On the basis of performances like this I feel he is on his way to becoming one of the all-time greats. He certainly lends some much needed charisma to this film and is ably supported by the co-stars, in particular Aditya Roy Kapoor who plays a young man eager to learn magic from Ethan, an actor with considerable promise and memorable hair!
The film entertains, but its main theme is that of the controversial subject of euthanasia, with its legal and moral facets. It raises unsettling questions - can a person decide to refuse to live a life that is filled with suffering that others cannot appreciate?
I would have given this five if it had one or two more good songs and slightly more pacier. But I definitely recommend it.
