I have a couple of other books in the series and enjoyed them, especially for the price, Salgado and Erwitt in particular.

It was therefore disappointing to see that almost ALL of Guy Bourdin's photos are ruined by being split across two pages. Quite why editors feel the need to do this I don't know, but in this book it really hurts the experience.

For this reason I would recommend steering clear of this title in the series at least, which is a shame as there seem to be few books featuring this interesting photographer.

Format: Paperback
I have never read such a poorly presented book. The majority of the photographs contained are spread over two pages. They are colourful pictures of beauty, intuitiveness and glamour: everything fashion photography should be about with a sprinkle of Bourdin's own individual surrealism that is sure to delight.

But the page split corrupts the experience; I actually felt angry after reading this book. The images deserve to be blown up on big pages to fully experience the thought provoking genius of Guy Bourdin.

Guy Bourdin designed his photos to be split across two pages. The magazine double page spread was his canvas. The publishers probably designed this book with the original presentations in mind.

A shame 9 Jun. 2008
By Dennis Wild - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a real shame for those who admire Bourdins work. There are images in this book which are new to me and I'm sure many fans but they have run them across the folds so that its impossible to really view them. The essay is thoughtful and well done but what a pity the photographs were not respected by the designers of this small volume.

Best intro for the price 6 Jun. 2011
By Wesley Youngblood - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I share the previous reviewer's sadness that most of the photos here are in between the pages, causing your eye to miss a segment of the work. Yet, there is no real way to avoid that error. The book, as all are in the Photofile series, is small. Increasing its size would increase the price. And it's cheap; I bought from Amazon and paid around eight dollars with "free" prime shipping. If you already know that you love Guy's work, then I would suggest spending extra for a bigger book. If you want a cheap introduction, as I did, this is the best deal.

NICE Compillation 7 Sept. 2008
By T. weed - Published on Amazon.com

Having known Guy for many years, I find this thoughtful little volume to include a wide, rarely seen selection of his work. The editing is succinct, and It is nicely printed. The richness and depth of his photography is evident. It is a refreshing sample of Guy's perfected technic, his incredible humor, and his fantastic fantasy life.
