A good read with a likeable lad in the lead role.Captures the ambience of wartime London and draws us in to share the scary adventures Jack has on his escape. the thing that loses the 5th star is the number ot typos in the text. A proofreader would have made a big difference.Nonetheles, I enjoyed it.

Disappointing 25 Mar 2012
By Suze
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I very much liked the sound of this book so I downloaded it. I've struggled to read 16% of it because although the idea of a clever, wily child taking on a variety of adults, in different situations sounds an interesting proposition, it seemed to me that the author just didn't have the skill to make the characters come alive and write interesting or credible dialogue. Just telling the reader that a conversation is funny or heartwarming doesn't make it so!
There were also quite a few mistakes even in the small portion that I read and they weren't just editing errors: there were also serious spelling and grammatical errors which were distracting. I hate giving up on books, but as I read I found myself thinking "I wonder if or when this is going to improve" and I eventually just gave up. Maybe if I'd persevered I might have been pleasantly surprised, but life's too short, really.

Light reading 14 Mar 2012

Rather an interesting book ,not a major storyline but enough in it to rate picking it up again to follow the troubles and adventures of a child during WW2. Light reading with , to me an interesting sojourn over the hills of Devon , and a cross of characters and the English language.
