I simply adore the action and presence of most of the Telarc catalog. Telarc recordings never seem to get the accolades they deserve in my opinion but I like to take the opportunity to recommend them to any classical fan whenever I can.
I once managed several EMI and HMV record stores during the late 1980's and early 1990's and whenever a Telarc recording came into stock I became excited.
The manner in which they were originally recorded (digitally that is) is both impressive and legendary but seemingly not without controversy. There were reports/complaints about consumers blowing speakers because of the high bass definition etc etc...but over and above the controversy we have these sterling recordings that are so awesome in delivery!
This particular recording sits alongside some of my most cherished Telarc recordings for it is bold, red blooded and absolutely commanding.
It gives me goose bumps every time and that to me is the ultimate indication of a personal favourite!
I encourage you to purchase this recording based on the strength of the audio recording and performance as I am sure it will thrill you and keep you on the edge of your seat.
CAUTION: Telarc recordings do have a very defined dynamic range so be careful when listening to them at volume...particularly the ones that employ emphasis on bass drums, explosions and the like.
ENJOY!
