1.0 out of 5 stars this is supposed to represent gaelic football??????, 14 Nov 2005

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
What happened to the point scoring?? Its way easier to score goals .... i.e its nothing like football. Games usually ending 4-1 to 3-0 .... come on lads, did you even test it.

Played far better sports games on the Commodore 64. Loads of terrible glitches too ..... go past the goalie and shoot and the ball rebounds off the goal line. the whole tackling thing is a bug in my view. Awful, awful, awful .....

In saying that I had some fun with a mate playing it, for the simple reason of playing GAA on the playstation. And thats where they have us .... they know we'll buy the next one too, even if its dung.

4.0 out of 5 stars Practice makes fun, give this game a chance, 16 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Ok, ok it's difficult to play BUT once your get your head (and fingers) around the control system it is entertaining and challenging. As a fan of 25 years I am very pleased with this, hopefully, first attempt.

The pros

1) Beautiful and accurate stadia reproduction
2) Full competitions and all the teams
3) Reasonably accurate real life game play reproduction. I know what you are thinking, 'tackling is impossible' or 'running around players is so hard' and yes I thought that too until I remembered how hard it is to do in reality. So, I feel it's fairly accurate. The key is practice.
4) The pure excitement of bringing your team to All[Ireland glory (I've been waiting since 1982 for Offaly to lift Sam again, I finally achieved it last Saturday!!)

The Cons
1) The lack of names. Even made up ones would have been better than numbers! Remember 'Sensible Soccer', the names weren't exact but we all knew who they were.
2) The game throws up some very odd referee decision (then again, maybe that's realistic too?!)
3) The penalty kick system is quite difficult.
4) The exclusion of New York from season mode.

It's far from perfect but so was Pro evolution 1, now look at it. I'm hoping that future incarnations bring big improvements BUT as a first attempt I'm more than happy. Please buy and ensure that we see Gaelic Games: Football 2 (and Gaelic Games: hurling)

1.0 out of 5 stars INSULTING, 12 Nov 2005
By Declan Gallen "declan" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sometimes games are released that are dissappointing. I wasn't expecting this game to be great. With sports games it usually takes a couple of incarnations before they find a winning formula but like Madden, Fifa, Pro Evo, NHL there is always some redeeming feature.... Gaelic Games football has none.

Better sports games were being produced in 1997. Play is slow and jittery. The game engine is unpredictable. The control system is illogical and takes away from the spirit of the actual sport. Graphics are poor. Player animation is unrealistic. There are no player names. The options are limited.

There are no redeeming features beyond the fairly realistic stadiums. Even the most ardent Gaelic Football fan would be lying if they said this was anything more than terrible.

As I said, I hadn't high hopes for this game but it is beyond my worst nightmares. AVOID AVOID AVOID
