5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop action! 12 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Desperado Jones went to Trouble Creek for personal reasons. What he found was Chloe Sommers. She needed his gun hand for fear of sabotages from the Talbots. They owned all the land except for Chloe's. Bought for a small amount from previous owners, before it was known of the railroad coming through. Talbot was determined to have Chloe's land one way or another. Since Old Man Talbot could not buy her out, he had his son court her. After the son bungled that up it became necessary to hurt Chloe financially, so she could not pay her taxes. Then he could foreclose.

Talbot hired the famous gunslinger, Desperado, the moment he entered town. Desperado would sign on with Chloe and do the sabotages for the Talbots. Of course, Desperado was happy to help. He had a grudge against Chloe which she knew nothing about. Desperado and Chloe had never even met. It was not long, though, before Desperado saw Chloe in a whole new light.

***Non-stop action within these pages. This is not your typical book where "her ranch is in trouble, he is hired to run her out but instead ends up saving her". Nope. This one has a whole new twist to it. Preorder this one, if you are able. Well worth the wait! I loved it!***

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Desperado is H-O-T! 23 Sep 2000
By Tracy Talley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Connie Mason has a knack for making her male leads so hot and this book was no exception. Desperado is the fastest gun in the west. He is feared and revered by so many. Chloe is about to lose her ranch to a bunch of money-grumbing people and needs a fearsome gunslinger to protect her herd as she makes her way to the market to sell them to pay her back taxes. He is hired on to help her and her herd and her hired hands not more than boys, make it to market, but what Chloe doesn't know is, Desperado has a hidden agenda. The story was explosive and full of action. I loved Desperado. He was pure sex-appeal. He was reknown for his coldness and meanness, but inside Chloe finds his heart. I don't know what it is about the way Mason writes, but her men become so real to the reader that you wish they would walk right off the pages. I loved 'Gunslinger', it's one of the BEST western romances I have EVER read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Forced myself to continue... Spoilers (sort of) 16 April 2013
By David J. Palmer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Thankfully it got better late in the book but I swear I have never read two more stupid characters than Desperado and Chloe. How Desperado couldn't figure out what happened between Chloe and Tate is beyond me. Tate practically said it outright in his father's office when he said "the bitch was asking for it". Chloe wasn't much better when Tate talked about Desperado "not following the plan" right in front of her. Of course Tate was a complete moron but he was supposed to be written that way unlike the two main characters.

Then the whole beginning of the book should have been scrapped or rewritten or something to make it less painful. The writing was tedious. There seemed to be places where paragraphs were repeated almost verbatim. Almost like a soap opera that has the same scene over and over for several episodes with slightly different dislogue. The innuendo and entendres were so thick I felt like I was being hit over the head with a copy of Penthouse. Not only did the characters use it but then it was added to the explanation of what was just said in case we didn't notice someone had just said something lewd. Honestly even a nun would have known someone had said something dirty. The book finally started to flow during the stampede but the stupidity of the characters was still there throughout. And I never want to see the word rapacious again. Rather disappointed since I had read another book by this author and found it enjoyable.

This is the first really bad review I've written. I've knocked books for bad editing/grammar before but that's the copy editors fault, this is just bad writing period. I only gave it two stars and I would have given it just one but after forcing myself to continue it did become a little less painful to read. I found myself wishing it would end so I could write the review and be done. Now I can go on to something enjoyable.
