This is the fourth in the Wotan Series and the war has turned against Germany.
The Allies have invaded Ialy, and SS Assault Regiment Wotan has been tasked with the defence of Monte Cassino, the mountain-top holding up the Allied advance.
Packed with the usual charactors Von Dodenburg and Schulze, this is the usual action packed, blood and bullets adventure.
If you are looking for an intelligent account of warfare, this isnt it, but if you are looking for a full on blood and guts action adventure, then this is for you.

First read this one years ago back at school and seem to remember maps but could be wrong. Anyhow, this is the usual blood and guts Wotan story as the SS try to defend Cassino and at the same time destroy it to disgarce the Allies. While it has all the violence of the rest of the series, there is a sub-plot concerning plans for the 20 July plot which lifts it a little out of the run of the mill Wotan outing.

A trip to Berlin lets us into the infamous Salon Kitty and a rather dubious sex scene with a BDM girl which I think we could have done without and the Führer himself features in an equally startling sequence at the beginning of the book. This aside, if you like the other ones and simple pulp war fiction, you probably won't go wrong if you download it.

Excellent read - hard to put down. The book is in the style of Sven Hassell. Will look out for more by this author
