W. Axl Rose (lead vocals), Slash (lead guitar), Duff McKagan (bass guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Steven Adler (drums) It s So Easy ,Mr. Brownstone,Out Ta Get Me,Sweet Child O Mine ,My Michelle,Knockin On Heaven s Door,Welcome To The Jungle ,Nightrain, Paradise City,Rocket Queen recorded February 2, 1988 at The Ritz, New York City Guns N Roses have arisen out of two bands (L.A. Guns and Hollywood Roses) and was founded 1985 in Hollywood. Their debut album Appetite For Destruction took over number 1 of the US charts in 1987 and immediately became a mega seller. On the highlight of their musical career they played a concert in the New Yorker Ritz with triumphal success. Unfortunately it got bizarrely quiet around the band for many years in the 90s but this DVD is the best proof that Guns N Roses is in fact one of the best rock n roll bands in the world. The bad boys from L.A. rock like the gods. You only need to hear the fi rst sun-drenched accords of Mr. Brownstone and the following ecstasy in the stadium: Then it becomes completely normal to wear chequered skirts and colored scarfs around the head.

I remember watching this on tv back in 1988-89. It was one of the most electrifying and powerful performances by a rock band I had ever seen. Now twenty years later it is on dvd - better late than never I suppose. When the set opens with It's So Easy you know this is G n' R in their prime and they are ready to "rip the roof off this place". That place being The Ritz in New York. Most of the tracks are from Appetite but Knockin' On Heavens Door is included.

Being a small venue the cameras were well placed to get many close-ups of the band. Slash works his magic inches away from a camera lense. Another camera is placed next to Steven Adler on the drums. As with all great live rock performances there is audience particiption, objects are thrown at the band and lots of people get on stage to be dragged off by security. Axl gives some backgound to some of the tracks - If you don't know the inspiration for Welcome To The Jungle, you will. Axl sings Sweet Child O' Mine with such passion you think he's going to have a heart attack and during Paradise City he jumps into the audience.

Unfortunately, most of Axl's swearing is deleted. This is extremely irritating especially during It's So Easy and does effect the enjoyment of the track. After a while the electronic beeps are just funny. Also, there is no dvd menu or audio options. This is a straight transfer from tape to dvd. The picture quality is very good VHS and the sound is in stereo but the quality of the songs and musicianship negates these small problems. Fact is, G n' R Live in New York is not just their best live performance, it is one of the best live performances by any rock band ever. Fans should not be without this classic peformance.

SO beeping annoying! Why the beep did they beeping have to beep out the beeping swear words??????!
I literally CANNOT believe what I am hearing! What mother beeper comes up with the ridiculous idea of beeping out every swear word? Which frankly is beeping annoying when it beeping happens 10 times in a song! I mean this is Guns n beeping Roses! Get a grip, get a life... release this dvd how it beeping should be! Because my favourite concert is now beeping unwatchable because some beeping beep beeping idiot did this! Unfortunately I just cant bear to sit and watch anymore since the beeps irritate me and deflect from the song and sound! And make me want to throw the beeping tv out of the beeping window!!

One thing that is BEEPING annoying about this DVD is that all the dirty words have been BEEPED - and there are many dirty words - this is Axl, remember? Irritating when you just want to hear the music...
The performances though are great - it's the original line-up tearing it up at a time when the songs were still new and fresh.
The DVD contains 9 classic songs from "Appetite for Destruction"* + a good cover of Bob Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door"
The sound is a bit muddy.
Recorded at the Ritz in New York City on February 2nd, 1988.

*) Regarded by some as the best debut album in the history of Rock n Roll.

Even if you dont like Guns N' Roses, there is no denying just how good a rock n roll band they were in there day. This show deserves 6 stars let alone 5. But I can only give it 1 star. The dvd company that has released this has done it on the cheap, a quick release an easy buck.
The swear words are beeped out- can you believe this? are we adults! what is this world coming to. Do yourself a favour- avoid this and watch the unrated version on you tube lol.

I originally saw this when a mate of mine (who had cable TV way back then!) recorded it & showed it to us, time & time again.
I had already seen the band in November 1987 & again in Donnington 1988 & was well caught up in the whole Gn'R whirlwind and excitement of the time. So, to me, this is always the classic line up. This was when the band were at their best, this was their TIME & this is the best live DVD I have seen of them to date (set & performances).
Professionally shot for TV & still 'intimate' in it's visual.
Guns n' Roses as they should be remembered & at the peak of their powers.

As per the title this is a Timeless concert by the best band ever and it's the only DVD you can see the original line up from Appetite.
Ignore the 2* star review - a few bleeps here and there do not take anything away from this piece of rock n roll history.
Having met Duff & Axl within the past 18 months it's very special for me. The fact that this bunch of legends broke up is the worse thing in history full stop!
