Following a brilliant album in "Holywood" , Manson decides to bring out his tour DVD featuring all his best tracks on one big live stage in front of many difeerent countries worldwide.
From start to finish , Gods, Guns And Government is a piece of art, with such tracks as the ever popular "Dope Show" or the foot stomper anthem of "Rock is Dead".
The best thing about the whole thing is that none of his band loses a beat or a chord making breathless in every sense, even haters of Warner can't help but gasp at his onstage antics like creepy stilt walking during "The Nobodies" or the elevation trick during "Cruici-fiction in space".
Along with "The Death Parade" bonus featuring back stage footage of his world tour, Gods, Guns And Government can not be faulted, a great addition to any music lover.

`This will help you see what its like to be nailed to this wrecking ball`
The Gods Guns & Government World Tour punched England hard and I remember surviving the Docklands show with one thought, I wanted to wrap the show up and keep it for myself. I smiled as DVD finally reached the Manson camp.
Ill keep this review simple as any flare for the dramatic can be viewed instead on the DVD.
The DVD experience resembles conjoined-twins. On the left sits an on-stage montage footage. Each live audio track is blurred with a flickering image set of various live visuals that confuse the viewer. The set list is true to the concert, erupting from the subdued COUNT TO SIX AND DIE into the classic, volcanic IRRESPONSIBLE HATE ANTHEM and REFLECTING GOD. Where would we be without those and thats just the start. Trawl through the guts of FIGHT SONG, DOPE SHOW,SWEET DREAMS and then wrench the volume up harder for ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR and let those hairs on your neck shiver!
After the remnants of BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, ASTONISHING PANORAMA and LUNCHBOX withdraw into the DVD.. take a break then meet the other twin: Behind the Tour-30 minutes of Manson seduction.
Follow the band on their visits to Russia, Tokyo, London and reminise with former members Twiggy and J5 (who co-directed this feature). Scenes from the J5 birthday, Mansons backstage surgery and Pogo acting his hyperactive self, throws you to the centre of their world.
If you sweated at the concert or you simply wish for a taste of the sour wine then buy this DVD. This will leave you searching for the next tour dates![Rated 4 out of 5 only because of the video montage effect]

This was from when Manson actually put effort into his live performances. When John 5 and Twiggy Rameriez (who actually co-composed a lot of the songs) were still in the band and play as fantastically as ever. Mostly songs from Holywood but also featuring tracks from Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. The varying locations did spoil it a little but you can still pick up on the atmosphere from the different venues and how massive Manson was at the time with the most dedicated of fans. If your a fan this is a must!! Otherwise this is a great musical performance from the band and Manson was still a good front-man though he was just starting to lose his 'shock factor' for some.

Astounding! Marilyn Manson is truly one of the greatest musical performers of our times. I think it's the fact he actually believes what he's singing about that makes him so compelling to watch. To stand up to Christianty in America is a very brave thing to do and his army of adoring fans prove it's a worthy cause. All goths should own this!

And since it's the show thats important, 4 stars it is.
Marilyn Manson, one of the most well known names in music, has released his third major live recording, this being the second 'visual' release. And a damm fine one it is too, with good production and quality sound.
First, the gripes with the DVD itself. The sound quality is excellent, with the feeling of realism not lost for the sake of a crisp aural effect, but one of the DVD's most irritating feature is the 'showswapping' effect. That is the DVD continuously swaps between the different legs of the tour from which it was recording, so you have a shot of Manson singing in Japan, which will suddenly change to a shot of Twiggy playing in say.....Moscow, with the same soundtrack over the top. This often ruins the effect of the show as it appears at several points that the band is miming. Although it does give the viewer the chance to see all the different aspects of the tour, it could have been done better. Perhaps one song from each show would have worked better.
The major gripe however, is the show itself. The band Marilyn Manson are all expert musicians, and this comes through as they hammer out spot-on versions of each song. But where it falls through is in the song mix. The CD concentrates far too heavily on the more rock/metal songs leaving out the slower songs, including some of my personal favorites. Leaving a particular hole in the setlist is 'the last day on earth', perhaps Manson's most beautiful song. 'Great big white world' has its place, but doesn't make up for the considerable lack of lighters-in-air moments.
In all, this is a good addition to any music collection, but if you want to hear Manson at his live best, I reccomend 'the last tour on earth' as a starting point.
