Product Description

A magazine assignment takes a murderous turn for that intrepid sleuth, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, in this delightful new addition to Carola Dunn's mystery series set in 1920s England...

Late autumn in the Cotswolds, and the countryside is a riot of red, yellow, and gold. Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, six months pregnant and blooming, is delighted to visit Edge Manor, home of her old school friend Gwen Tyndall, to research one of her articles. Since 1606, the Tyndalls have held an annual fete celebrating the defeat of Guy Fawkes' plot against the monarchy. But this year, amid the fireworks and festivities, Gwen's father and a visiting Australian are found dead. It seems that Sir Harold turned the gun on himself after shooting his guest. Sir Harold was a bully with a famously short-fused temper, and many--including his own children--might have secretly wished for his demise. But could the apparent suicide really be murder? Now, as Daisy investigates alongside her husband, Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard, an explosive family secret emerges--one that a trigger-happy killer will do anything to protect...

"Fans of the dauntless Daisy will delight in this Anglophilic period mystery." --Kirkus Reviews

"Daisy exhibits her usual common sense and charm." --Publishers Weekly

Format:Hardcover
When you read a Daisy Dalrymple mystery you know you are in for a treat and although best read before a cozy fire on a winter's night she can be just as much fun on the beach or on the plane. This latest outing finds our intrepid heroine heavy with child being invited to a traditional November the 5th celebration in a great Old House in the country. It has all the ingredients required, enough suspects to fill the dusty hallways and enough clues to fill those echoing stairways. The plot may have a couple of creaks in it but the sheer fun of reading the book soon silences those. Just read it and enjoy a few hours in another less complex time

Another gem 13 Feb 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The Daisy Dalrymple series by Carola Dunn are all an absolute joy. Admittedly, they are somewhat formulaic BUT if you accept that and enjoy them for what they are, then you will experience a delightful story, with wise human insight, and a happy ending. They are absolutely charming books that allow the reader a couple of hours escapism, and I recommend them highly for that alone. This book is no different - nicely written, evoking beautifully 1920's/30's England with the sweet Daisy finding herself entangled once again in a murder case. If you want a challenging read that will broaden your horizons and expand your thinking this book is not for you. If you'd like a couple of peaceful hours on a train, a plane, or curled up on the sofa then do buy this book and enjoy.

This is the first "Daisy Dalrymple" story I have ever read and it will certainly be the last. Appalling. Infantile rubbish!
Another reviewer said it better than me: I could not put this book down; I had to hurl it from me with great force.
