I remember well listening to Jo Jo Gunne's first album. I had eagerly awaited it's arrival, as being a West Coast fan, and a lover of the original Spirit, a band with Jay Ferguson & Mark Andes in it was something to get excited about. The album didn't disappoint, and delivered 9 great tracks.
So here we have that debut album with the next three on two CDs. I agree with the first reviewer that the sound is first class, but there again, have you ever heard a bad re-issue where Rhino is involved. For me the debut is still the best of the bunch and the four albums show a slow decline, but for lovers of the late West Coast sound, or this band, this set represents an absolute bargain. Goodness knows why it is so cheap at the moment, so snap it up while you can.
The packaging is the worst point for me as it is a slim plastic double jewel case which I detest, but it does have a good 18 page booklet showing original artwork (including the vinyl album labels) with a six page essay by Alan Robinson.
