Product Description

Product Description

This is weird, wacky and one in a million: a cross between Roald Dahl and Monty Python. Mr. Gum is back in this second hilarious book and he's as nasty as ever! In fact, he's absolutely grimsters. But this book's not just about him. Read this book and you'll meet a gingerbread man named Alan Taylor who has electric muscles! Plus, all our favourite characters are back: the little girl called Polly, the evil butcher called Billy William The Third, and the very wise man, Friday O'Leary. And, who could forget loveable Jake the dog, or the angry fairy who lives in Mr. Gum's bathtub and whacks him on the head with a frying-pan? This book will have you crying with laughter!

About the Author

Andy Stanton lives in North London. He studied English at Oxford but they kicked him out. He has been a stand-up comedian, a film script reader, a cartoonist, an NHS lackey and lots of other things. He has many interests, but best of all he likes Radio 4, books and music (even jazz). One day he'd like to live in New York or Berlin or one of those places because he's got fantasies of bohemia. His favourite expression is 'Good evening' and his favourite word is 'captain'. This is his second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny as anything! Your kids will love this!, 24 May 2007
By Purple157 (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
On the recommendation of a friend, I bought this for my nephew's eighth birthday - and I'm happy to say it was the hit of the day, not just amongst the kids but the adults too. Weird doesn't even come close to describing the plot of this book, but basically it involves a gingerbread man with electric muscles, who just happens to be a billionaire (told you it was weird). There are all sorts of funny asides but somehow the author keeps it all in check and produces a satisfying (but highly bonkers) conclusion. In short - buy this book for any kids you know and if you don't have any kids - buy it anyway. You will laugh a lot. Have just ordered the first one for my nephew, (but I will be reading it first, for sure).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth is a Lemon Meringue!, 19 Sep 2008
By Steerpike (Derbyshire, UK) - See all my reviews
I've never written an Amazon review before, but Shabba me Whiskers that one star review made me so cross I had to write one right now. All of the Mr. Gum books are THE BEST, but this is the best of them all. I read it to my three children (aged 6,9 & 11) and all four of us were crying with laughter. I've recommended Mr. Gum to so many other parents, and all of them (and their kids) have loved the books. Funty stuff indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars my son loves these books, 8 Jan 2009
By Mr. Mark L. Austin - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My son was not much of a reader until introduced to these books, he now reads all the time and just loves them. Adults may think they are silly and try to hard but to a 9 year old boy they are the funniest books ever. My son lends them to his friends at school and they are all addicted to them I would reccommend that all primary school librarys stock them just because they get kids reading.
