I had heard about the album Guitararama and Stephen Petit through a rock radio station called TotalRock. As soon as my copy arrived I WAS NOT dissapointed! I have never been a "real" fan of the blues genre but what I heard made me think that nowerdays, there is more to blues music than meets the eyes (or should I say ears). What Stephen has done here is take the blues genre to a new and exciting level. If you want relaxing guitar, you got it. If you like harder blues, you got it. This album has so much to offer and I'm so looking forward to what I'm sure will be Stephens next album soon. CRACKING STUFF!!

By Mr. H TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Strange one this. If you'd heard the single which trailed this album - 'A Better Answer', then you would probably find yourself somewhat bemused by the album itself. For whereas the single was a rough and ready, scorched earth blues vocal, the album itself is largely instrumental, and leaning heavily on the rock side of blues-rock.

Which means it's still very good. Just not what I was expecting. There are some tracks where the connection to the blues is nigh on invisible - '10 Year Reflections' for example, which is more akin to new age guitar noodling. A lot of the tracks also owe more than a nod to the surf rock of Dick Dale but, again, that's not a bad thing. Hell, he even throws in a few hippity hop references, just for fun.

I'm not sure why there isn't more singing, as his sandpaper voice is just as good as many another, and the market for instrumental music is small, to say the least. When he hits the mark, as he does on at least half of this album, then it's absolutely fantastic, but to say the music is schizophrenic and scattershot is an understatement. However, no matter what he's playing, there is no doubting his guitar playing prowess on this Guitararama Extravaganza.

Blues fans should head for 'Alexis Korner Says' or 'Bad Road Blues', rockers should head for 'Crack Whore', Eric Claptout fans should go for '10 Years Reflections' and Led Zeppelin / White Stripes fans should go for '7 Cent Cotton'.

OK but..... 2 April 2009
Format:Audio CD
OK but lacks something.

Good instrumental guitar playing, OK songs but nothing to make you sit up and say WOW.

Covers a wide range of styles but seems happy to ape other players styles without creating his own. I would listen to the samples and only buy if you like what you hear.
