Product Description

About the Author

Erich started playing guitar at age 14 on a VERY "affordable" nylon-string student guitar. He started off playing by ear, but then started taking one-on-one lessons with teachers throughout his hometown. Entering college as a classical guitar major, Erich changed his major 3 years later to music business when he moved to Nashville Tennessee and attended Belmont University. Erich started teaching in high school and throughout college because of his love of the instrument and his passion for helping people. Throughout nearly 3 decades of teaching and study, he has discovered and simplified methods for mastering technique and theory from the perspective of the learning student, NOT from the perspective of the frustrated teacher. Erich has taught millions of players around the world that once thought they were unteachable. He still teaches one-on-one lessons, writes books about music, loves to travel, do yoga, enjoys the outdoors and is a big supporter of ASPCA and animal welfare.

At last a book that can advance my 'limited' knowledge of the guitar and take me beyond just 'plodding along' into actually mastering the instrument. I recommend this book to all struggling with the mysteries of the guitar, go buy it.

Many thanks Erich, so glad I found you. Keep up the good work Erich!

Excellent book for both beginners and intermediate guitarists. Well written, good diagrams with work through examples backed up with video examples. Best ebook I've seen by far. Thanks Erich.

Over all, a good well informed and knowledge packed book. A book that can be used beginners and old hands alike. For me here lies the issue.
I found that you, as a novice player, are happily reading through and taking in all the good well thought out information and then wham! You are hit by a chapter of what I would consider higher level music theory and then you go back to novice learning again. I understand the need to get the music foundations in place, but it feels like to much to soon. A book with twin personalities, One which I feel you can work through to get the basics and then pick it up again to get the theory.
This element of the book started to put me off reading in the way the author wished the book to flow, however don't be put off by this as, as I've said before it is a well informed and knowledgeable book.

I have signed up to Erich's online course (which is simply incredible by the way) and this book is an excellent accompaniment to that course. Erich's teaching method is simple and breaks everything down into small simple steps that enable you to see very quick results. I would recommend this book (and the online course) to anyone wanting o play the guitar, from complete beginners who have never even picked up a guitar (like myself) to intermediate players who are open to learning new tips and guitar playing techniques to help them polish their existing skills.

This book didn't really meet my expectations..Its a written explanation on the principles of playing guitar and strumming with no real exercises to challenge your progress. I definetely wouldn't recommend it to the beginner as it assumes you can already play and need progressive instruction. Not all bad though, it does contain some valuable points.

This book demonstrates the pitfall of self published books, which is lack of quality control. The market is already flooded with dumbed down (and ineffective)guitar methods, promising easy and fast results for all. The only worthwhile part of this book is Chapter 9: Talent v Practice, a topic not mentioned enough in other methods but which simply comes down to the notion of Talent being an elitist myth; we all have an equal capacity to learn!

For the most part, if I didn't already know what the author was trying to explain, I'd find the explanations very vague and confusing!

There is also too many basic issues overlooked like how to angle your plectrum and move across the strings and how hard to press down on the strings, to name a few.

Learning guitar or any instrument is not easy, it takes lots of time, study, hard work and perseverance, but it's in the process that you find the enjoyment with goals to celebrate along the way!

Avoid this book, your time and money is better spent elsewhere!

material within is explained in other books. alright for the beginner but for an intermediate or upwards guitarist nothing within is going to tax you here.
written well though. but nothing within is going to suddenly turn you into a guitar ninja.
One for the bookshelf I am afraid.
