Sherman Robertson initially learned his craft from the great Albert Collins (the original big dog). When the latter caught him spying on rehersals through a knot hole at the tender age of 13 he insisted that the boy come back later that day for a lesson. Albert must have seen the inherent qualities in Sherman, because he continued those lessons and told Sherman that one day he could be a big dog too. That time has certainly arrived now and on this CD you can hear echoes of Albert as well as Sherman's other influences, the orginal blues greats - the 3 Kings. The sheer forcefulness of his presence on stage to some extent belies the sophistication of his playing, but over all of that there is the man's voice. What a great blues voice!

You really need to experience the Serminator live if you can to understand what his take on the blues is all about, and I urge you to do so if you get the chance. For those that cannot, this is the next best thing - a great live recording of the man himself in action.

Sherman is a 65 year old classic blues man, who has played in a number of bands and contributed to a varied group of stars. I think that the most notable band was the 'Bobby Blue Band' and he also played on Paul Simon's Graceland Album.

This is a live blues / southern rock album which hasn't a poor track on it. I could wax lyrically but will focus upon a couple of exceptional tracks, 'Out of Mind' is the first piece and this sets the upbeat tone for the rest of this masterpiece, the title track 'Guitar Man' epitomises what is good about the blues, this track showcases the exceptional guitar playing of this man when combined with the rest of the band. 'Dust my Broom' is a slower classic blues number containing blues riffs, superb guitar work and is about 10 minutes long. There is a little of the 'Chris Farlow' perhaps in his younger days in the vocal. If you like the blues then this is a album for you!

Plenty of Sherman playing guitar, which is always a good thing. The sound is very 'live' but it's still no substitute for being at one of his gigs.
