4.0 out of 5 stars Useful to all serious guitarists. 10 Oct 2013
By Hardin
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A detailed update on the earlier versions, invaluable in a busy music shop and to anybody who is interested in guitars. One small caveat: if you have the earlier edition, don't throw it away! Some details in the earlier edition are not included in this new edition; use both for the whole picture.
A useful publication, but only four stars because of the editing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Unique Tidbits - Not as indispensible as I had hoped 23 Oct 2013
By Moo - Published on Amazon.com

MEH - BAH.
I purchased this book as a companion to Gruhn. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the amount of content - more like a magazine than a book. It needs a LOT more photography, and with MUCH BETTER production values. The photos in the book are terrible - some are barely legible. Since this is all about identifying guitars, clarity of the photos is of paramount importance and this edition fails in that regard. I'm sure I'll find some useful tidbits in there as time goes on - I always do. For ten bucks I suppose it was an OK purchase, but certainly not indispensable.

PS - the Fender section seems to be the most comprehensive.
