America’s most versatile guitarist and his band peel back the years to deliver a gritty tribute to the early heroes of R&B

Looking back, it was one of the most exciting eras of American music. Tiny independent R&B labels put out jukebox singles with infectious riffs, shouted vocals, honking tenor sax solos and dance grooves that electrified black America’s clubs, bars ... Read more in Amazon's Duke Robillard Store

Great album from Duke possibly my favorite, lot's of excellent playing and vary varied styles, If you're left cold by the current crop of young blues/rock guitar players (no names mentioned) then do you're self a favor and by an album from a master, you won't regret it.

Bravorama! 25 Mar. 2006
By Star Thrower - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
To reiterate the editor's words, this is a terrific new release from Mr. Robillard! Guitar Groove A Rama features a strong collection of diverse material all beautifully played with delicious guitar tones. I have to confess I hadn't bought a Duke Robillard cd in nine years and I was initially seduced by the cover photo, being a sucker for beautiful guitars. The seduction continued as the first notes of ... Memphis Grind poured out of my stereo speakers. This "swampy little tune", to quote Robillard is classic Duke, and a great start to a 77 minute romp that does not disappoint. Recommended!

Duke hits on all cylinders 12 Aug. 2006
By Music, Man! - Published on Amazon.com

I remember seeing Duke play at the old Lone Star Club on 5th Avenue in Manhattan about twenty years ago. He was opening for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and it was an unforgettable night. He opened with a perfect rendition of "Honky Tonk". You could see and feel the love in his playing that night. I have been a fan of his ever since. He put out a couple of albums with his great trio, and I still own both on LP.

This album is like a big hug from Duke for all his fellow blues and roots music lovers. I always find Duke's other albums enjoyable (I particularly like his guitar duets with Herb Ellis), but this one is different in that it embraces you and doesn't let go. Beautifully engineered too.

I think it is worthy of a Grammy. Thanks Duke.

Crank up your stereo and groove! 23 April 2006
By M. Bernocchi - Published on Amazon.com

...So sit back crank up your stereo and GROOVE! This is a phrase that you can read on the back cover of the CD at the end of Duke's statement. Well, this is exactly what I have done as soon as I received the delivery from Amazon and from the opening track to the last one I have been carried away by an incredible series of great blues. Following the extraordinary "The Duke meets the Earl" Duke Robillard delivers another excellent album that once again demonstrates beyond any doubts his immense talent as guitar player. This time, as stated also on the editorial review, Duke Robillard pays a sort of tribute to all the artists who influenced him as musicians. Different styles of blues magnificently played using a lot of different guitars as described track by track by Duke himself. From my point of view this is the best blues release so far in 2006. Really recommended not only to all the blues lovers but also to everyone who enjoy great guitar music. Simply a must have album that will stay permanently for the years to come in your CD rotation.

Give Duke a Handy Award for this one 12 Sept. 2006
By Christopher Olson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have several discs from this guitar musicologist but I have never seen him live until this year at Chrome in Las Vegas. What a treat. When he debuted "Sunday Mornin'" from his latest, I was hooked on this one. This disc allows the listener to sample a wide range of styles from the greats of blues, so students....a perfect contemporary primer. Start groovin'!

Guitar Groove-A-Rama, my review from Barcelona 3 Jun. 2007
By Bluesman From Barcelona - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
What a great guitar record, totally based in the "twelve compasses rhythm", in the Blues, with some shades of jazz. I would only leave aside some free kind of bolero in the tune "Danny boy" and a kind of tango "Dark eyes", in spite of the nice playing Doug James's baritone sax and Al Basile's cornet but I thing out of place in a Blues record . The rest of the record is simply magnificent. The album highlight is perhaps "Blues A Rama", in which Robillard pays homage to all his mentors and idols of Chicago Blues, New Orleans Blues, Texas Blues and so on... like Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Eddie Jones, Johnny Guitar Watson, T-Bone Walker, the three kings B.B.King, Freddie King y Albert King and the possibly current top Chicago Blues performer, the great Buddy Guy. In a few words, this record is a must to all Blues lovers and even more if they love guitar music, of course. My evaluation is 4,5 stars. Very outstanding.
