I contracted GBS - AMAN sept 2009 and was paralysed from the neck down but am slowly getting better. This book was recommended so as soon as I could turn pages I read it cover to cover. It gives a good scientific overview coupled with practical advice. The issue with GBS is that it is almost impossible to say how long it will take to get better and what degree of your former self you will return to but the book gives some decent usable advice in this area, that is unlikely to come from doctors as they are concerned about litigation etc.It filled in alot of the gaps that were missing from the discussions I had in hospital - particularly the classification of the different types. If you are a new sufferer or know someone who is I would definitely recommend this. Sadly there is no magic cure but this gives excellent advice and info about what is a rare and often distressing disease for all involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guillain-Barr Syndrome by Parry 9 April 2011
By JW
Format:Paperback
I suffer from Guillaine-barr Syndrome (GBS); it is an awful illness yet few have heard of it. This book explained what it was in terms understandable by a layman and also what its long term effects might be. I found it comforting in a strange sort of way to know that it was unlikely that I would make a full recovery in 3 - 6 months (it was obvious that I wouldn't) but that eventual recovery was possible. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone that is effected by GBS.
