Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Enter the ever-changing fantasy world of Tyria, where you control the story and your actions shape the world around you!

Heroes from the five great races – charr, asura, norn, sylvari and humans – must set aside their differences and unite against the Elder Dragons who have woken from their slumber, reshaping continents and corrupting the land and its inhabitants. Together these champions are the last, best hope for Tyria.

Guild Wars 2 is redefining the future of online role-playing games with intense, action-oriented combat, customisable personal story, innovative dynamic events that have a real and persistent effect on the surroundings, world-class PvP and no subscription fees.

The original Guild Wars® series sold over seven million units across North America and Europe and continues to enjoy an active, loyal player base.

Guild Wars 2 builds on the rich lore and ground breaking gameplay developed in the original games, but takes players 250 years into the future to a radically different world of Tyria.

Guild Wars 2 is developed by ArenaNet™ in Bellevue, Washington, USA. This 250-person-strong game studio has a proven record of innovation and accomplishment creating online worlds.

Dynamic Events: Explore an ever-changing fantasy world where your actions have a real and persistent effect on your surroundings. Dynamic events respond and change based on how you react to them. Will you defend that village from rampaging centaurs or let it burn? The choice is yours!

Personal Stories: Your personal story begins with key decisions you make when creating your character’s biography and then evolves with each fateful choice you make in the game. You decide who lives, who dies and what path you’ll walk in life, and those choices have a lasting effect on both your personal story and your private home instance.

Action-Oriented Combat: Experience a new kind of high-impact, fast paced combat. Attack on the move, dodge and roll away from enemy blows, team up with other players for powerful combos, take advantage of handy environmental weapons, and unleash spectacular skills and spells. Guild Wars 2 is putting the fun back into fantasy combat.

Sprawling dungeons: Only the most experienced groups of adventurers dare enter the dungeons, huge private adventure areas where the risks are immense but the rewards are great. Dungeons take many forms, but in each you follow a gripping plot in story mode and then branch into the even more challenging free-roaming explorable mode.

Competitive PvP: Face off against small teams of other players in intense matches where skill and audacity determine the victor. Battle over key objectives on a wide variety of maps loaded with game-changing secondary objectives like cannons and trebuchets. Make a name for your team during the daily, weekly and annual PvP tournaments.

No Subscription: Get the game and play online for as long as you want. It’s that simple.

Pre-Purchase Bonuses include:

  • 3-Day Headstart Access
  • Beta Weekend Event Access. Play in all Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Events

5.0 out of 5 stars My Humble Review 30 April 2012
By Archer
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Having played the beta for some time now, and looking into the development of the game it's clear to see that this is a online game that wants to set itself apart from the typical phantasmagoria of titles in the genre out there.

Using their unique business model of being free-to-play, and being one of the first companies to ever do this with an AAA title is a fantastic way for people to get into the genre without the fear of subscription fees and the ongoing costs surrounding them. There is a cash shop however for the more frivolous of gamers out there to spend their money on cosmetic items and various boosts to develop their character quicker using "Gems". It is important to note that all these cash shop items can also be obtained within the game as well by changing game currency. Naturally, this takes longer to do so ~ but allows the option to ensure people aren't missing out just being they don't want to invest that much money into a game.

The game itself is a far cry from it's predecessor. Those who have played the original game will find quite a few references to the old characters in the forms of statues, lore, and interactions. There are also many places that are from the original game that the player can visit such as the Ring of Fire, Lion's Arch, Divinity's Reach, and the old city of Ascalon ~ though naturally over the course of 200 years places have changed quite significant due to world changing events within the lore.

Storytelling and character development have always been a key aspect in Guild Wars, and this has been amplified in the latest rendition. Characters you speak to are interesting, and storylines are memorable. Every interaction with any NPC is voiced, and even walking through town areas you'll hear NPC having discussions and interacting with each other - sometimes with your character, remembering the things you've done for them. This really encourages immersion within the game, and makes you feel like you are actively participating in the world.

Questing has had a new approach taken to it as well. No longer do you need to talk to an NPC to start a quest after being given a wall of text, no. Rather the quest will appear when you in the area to complete it. Which a lot of the time, will be done with anyone else in the area, scaled to match that many people. By this I mean, if there are 20 people in the area doing the quest to kill off a bunch of enemies, those enemies will be more numerous and more powerful then if only 5 people where there.

Overall, this game will cause a scene in the MMO genre ~ good or bad. It is a big change from what people are used to ~ personally makes me smile when someone asks where do they hand a quest in. Some people will think it's too much, and that the ambition is too big.

My humble opinion is it is definitely a game to give a go. If you are a fan of Guild Wars, you will fall in love with it all over again. If you're new, there's so much being offered you'd be missing out if you didn't try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Work In Progress (Beta) 30 April 2012
By Apollo
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Long time fan of the first Guild Wars here...
Having just finished playing the 1st public Beta weekend, I've got to say I am impressed with what I have seen so far.
Gameplay, Graphics and Sound are all fantastic. The new and improved Lions Arch really is a wonder to behold.

The game has a lot of locations and lore from the first Guild Wars game, but the way it plays is totally different. Whereas in GW1 you only partied up in Towns and then entered personal instances with your party for any of the locations between the towns, here you are with other players wherever you travel and you really feel as though you are part of the world - It's an awesome sight to see a roaming event occur, everyone joins in and works together to complete that event. Rewards are based on how much impact you have on the event (so if you are there from early on you get higher rewards than someone who say, joins the event near its conclusion.)
The only time i have seen a provate 'instance' is for your character's personal story. Each character has their own story arc depending on the choices made when creating your character.
Skills are handled slightly different to the original GW. Each weapon has 5 key skills. Slot 6 is your characters healing skill slot. slots 7 to 10 are for personal additional skills + an Elite skill.
I can't wait for the full release - the beta went reasonably well after a couple of issues with the servers.

This is well worth paying the one off payment of £40-£50 . The world looks huge and there is so much to see and do. (After around 20 hours play I have only discovered around 5% of the world, and that figure is just for discovery of the map locations, not even for actually doing many of the missions available.)

I am marking this as 5 stars for the game as i experienced it. I realise that its still in beta, but I am reviewing from what i have experienced so far.

Fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different and amazing 6 May 2012
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
There are several things about Guild Wars 2 that appeals to me over other MMO's such as:

- No holy trinity; there is no dedicated healer class - every character has a bit of healing
- Death mechanics; instead of dying and respawning immediately you go into a "downed-state" where you have a limited number of skills and must be ressed by another player or kill an attacker to get back up. This encourages teamwork and makes gameplay much more interesting
- Dynamic events; there are such a wide variety of these and each has a "chain of events" system where the communities action in one kicks of another event in the future. At last count there were over 1800 of these available.
- WvWvW or world v world; across multiple maps you have three servers battling it out for superiority taking over supply chains, camps and castles. These battles last for weeks and are truly amazing to take part in although the particle effects when 40+ players are fighting at once can get a bit excessive
- No supscription fee - £50 in a one off transaction to play an MMO is amazing compare that to WoW where you're paying for the initial disc along with £15 or so every month plus £40+ for an expansion. Guild Wars 2 wins the cost/gameplay battle hands down.

There are many other things I love and these are just a few I witnessed in Beta. This game will surely be amazing upon release as it is already awesome in beta.
