Blocks of fun for all ages 28 Sept. 2007
By Army Wife - Published on Amazon.com
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
My four-year-old daughter received these blocks for her birthday, along with a set of water blocks. What an ingenious idea! I have a 10-month-old too and both kids love to build towers and knock them down just to see what the sand and water will do inside. Built out of durable wood and plastic, I have no worries that I'll end up with colored sand or water spots on our rug or hardwood floors. Kudos to the inventor of this toy... must be a big kid just like myself! I have just as much fun with these blocks as my kids do.

Good but not the best 9 May 2010

Verified Purchase Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I ordered these along with PLAN TOYS WATER BLOCKS which are also available here. The Plan Toy blocks are better quality with perfectly smooth wooden surfaces while these blocks have some roughness to them - i am afraid the kids might get a splinter from these. Also the water blocks add a new dimension to the fun as water is transparent and my 2.5yr old invented new games by holding a colored water block against his eyes and enjoy watching the world around him from a different hue. Also he likes when he place those blocks by the lamp and they cast colorful shadows. As to the strength of these sand blocks, he like to shake these and enjoy the "snick-snack" sound that the sand granules make. But if i had the chance to examine both sets in hand before purchasing, i would definitely have bought two of Plsn Toy ones. This toy itself is not bad as you can see from my ratings, it just pales against a higher quality counter-part.

Good idea...but GRITTY! 4 Mar. 2013
By Customer1 - Published on Amazon.com
Verified Purchase Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Pro's:
-Pretty
-Add color and variety to standard block sets
-makes a sound when shaken (for younger kids)
-Wooden frames seem to be well crafted but slightly rougher than Plan toys blocks

Con's
-Plastic frames move around within the frame
-Sand leaks! The first set I received was gritty when I opened the box. I found a fair amount of sand on the bottom of the box in each of the colors. When I called the company, they said that they have not heard that complaint before. Since it was not a recurring complaint, I assumed I just got a bad batch or it had ben damaged during shipping. The company sent me another set free of charge and did not even ask me to return the original set. I was very pleased with the customer service. BUT...the next set also felt gritty, although not as bad as the first. I went through the box and shook each block to see if I could detect the source and maybe do some repairs. There was no obvious source of leakage so I thought it must just be leftover from the manufacturing process and it will go away. I have now had the blocks for more than a few months and the leakage continues. I don't have a huge pile of sand anywhere, but the entire block bin is gritty and I have been getting little scratches on the block table from the grains of sand.

Overall: Cute, great customer service, kind of leaky and gritty. I guess I am glad to have them but if you are worried about wood floors or a high quality table surface, you might want to skip.

Open ended blocks. 7 Dec. 2013

I have been buying block sets for my oldest grandson (6) for a couple of years now. He has the plain and colored water filled sets and now the sand ones. He is so creative and has so much fun building. These blocks are durable and teach shapes, and colors. Open ended and easily transformed into many things they are a great toy.

Cool but a little disappointing 5 Jan. 2014

I was really excited about these and overall I still like them. So far my daughter thinks they are just ok. She isn't nearly as impressed with them as I thought she would be. The main thing I don't like is that the sand clings to the inside of the glass so even when all of the sand is on one end you still have sand residue on the other. I know, I know they are just blocks but in the pictures you don't see the residue so I wasn't expecting it.
They are ok but for the price I would not buy them again nor would I recommend them.
