This is a brilliant short book fromt he ologies range, it has a padded cover and is filled throughout with the excellent illustration and scrapbook effect that readers have come to expect from the ologies range.

Dealt with are the western wizards, south and north american shamans, fakirs, sages and masters, each is described and accompanied by a sort of top trumps style scoring of magical attributes. Throughout are the themes of expansive knowledge, learning, insight and interest across borders and boundaries. At the end of the book is a card game linked with the content of the book, the rules of which are outlined at the beginning of the book and are similar to those of happy families.

The book is pretty literary and I was reminded of, obviously, Merlin and Arthurian literature but also The Arabian Nights, particularly the stories about magic carpets, and other sources.

The book isnt linked with Wicca or Paganism or Neo-Paganism in any form, there isnt any sinister or obviously occult or esoteric content to speak of (infact there are a couple of warnings throughout the book about other sources on the topic of magic and repeated cautions against negativity, negative thoughts or intentions and how these can rebound three fold).

It is instead entertainment for all ages but particularly fans of the ologies series and spin offs.
