I chose this book on the basis of reading the previous three reviews. The book is split into regions of London. Each region has a detailed map. This map shows the location of each building listed and a code. The code given locates the details of the building within the text of the book. The details include, a picture, cross referencing to other buildings, the architect/s involved in its construction, a brief discription (not really fair to call them brief),nearest tube location, and sometimes, an opinion as to the architectural value of the building (they can be amusing; but generally true). I apologise for making my review a little wooden, but the previous reviewers have all made comments which I can only agree with. This is the best book of this kind I have ever read, about any city, anywhere in the world. Thanks from me must go to whoever was involved in putting it together.

This book is a marvelous base to start studying the interesting buildings in London.Each entry gives a concise summary with clear conclusions on every building, if the authors don't like certain features then these are pointed out.These summaries are intelligent and thought provoking and I would highly reccomend this book to both amateurs and practising Architects.

This book is both: a fantastic updated reference and a guide to the Fair City.
Written as well-informed, insightful and witty essays, the entries read like an alternative architectural and social history of London and show the city as a collective endeavour over two thousand years.
As a now rare example of historically informed architectural criticism this book provides an antidote to the culture of amnesia in contemporary architecture (and this applies to the followers or protégés of the British crown prince as much as it does to Sub-Hi-Tech architects). Very readable and informing for the intelligent visitor; recommended to architects as an essential reminder that there is more to their discipline than mindless doodling and greed.
