The word 'EASY' in the title should not be taken to indicate 'simple', 'basic', or 'for beginners' - although the beginner who comes across this excellent book will be lucky indeed. In a very straightforward way, the authors set about explaining the processes of choosing patterns, adapting them for personal style and flattering fit, then go on to show the most efficient way to sew a surprisingly broad range of garments. The tips and techniques are often derived from quality ready-to-wear, and as such not so familiar to the home dressmaker. By using them instead of always following the sewing guide with a commercial pattern better results are almost guaranteed. Photographs and diagrams are clear and to the point. It definitely feels like a book for the modern sewer, who enjoys the creativity of the craft, but doesn't want to waste time. Trousers for example are relatively easy to make, but usually a trial to get right. The extensive section on style and fit should sort out these problems for most people. I have made Vogue patterns designed by Marcy Tilton and regularly look at her website (she seems to have quite a following in the U.S.) This book seems the next best thing to a workshop. I think it's great and will become a classic.
