I found this beautifully presented book in the library and very enthusiastically started reading. Unfortunately my enthusiasm vaned already at the very first sentence: Quote: 'while researching and writing this book, my mood has variously been depressed, elated, confused, determined, panic-stricken, privileged, numb and hopeless'.
So far so neurotic. The rest of the book is a collection of rather well-known green household tips, though might come in handy as a reminder once in a while.
What left me with a very sour taste though - and hence the one star rating - is the following:
After pages of preaching about buying locally, reducing one's carbon footprint etc turns out the books are printed in China. So when it comes to profit Mrs Strutt is rather quick to forgo her principles!
She also advocates the website futurefriendly.co.uk as a good resource for tips on green living. This website is run by Procter & Gamble and has widely been criticised as a marketing tool for their products rather than a true green living initiative. In the context of this book I can only say this is either very slovenly research, a severe case of naivety or complete ignorance.

Overall a good looking book, some of its content a useful reminder of what you probably know already, some other tips somewhat far fetched, laughable and 'middle class on a mission' ('buy several pair of plimsoles so they never have to be worn more than once before washing') but all goodwill and credibility were ruined by the China and P&G hypocrisy.

I take this book out every now and then, if not to read from cover to cover, then to at least have a look at the lovely pictures. It fills me with inspiration and gives ideas every time I open it.
